Quote of the Day

Guns protect against lone predators, burglars, rapists, gangs and hordes of various sorts, zombies or otherwise. As a practical matter there is little difference between a zombie who wants to eat your brain and a criminal who would bash it in with a brick. Guns either repel them or dispatch them to an appropriate destination.
BTW, isn't a coward someone who lives their life in fear? Especially irrational fear?

Anyway, more on this topic here

Why guns shouldn't be allowed in a coffee shop.

Just think of this happening in a Starbucks filled with armed gunloons.  Especially if they are the type of bozo who owns an assault weapon "for the Zombie Apocalypse".

Miami Police Shoot and Kill a Real Live (Zombie) Cannibal

It was a scene as creepy as a Hannibal Lecter movie.

One man was shot to death by Miami police, and another man is fighting for his life after he was attacked, and his face allegedly half eaten, by a naked man on the MacArthur Causeway off ramp Saturday, police said.
I'm the first one to criticize the police decision to shoot someone, but when it comes to a face-eater, I have no problem with the shooting. The only part of the article I wondered about was the possible explanation for the incident.

Police theorize the attacker might have been suffering from "cocaine psychosis," a drug-induced craze that bakes the body internally and often leads the affected to strip naked to try and cool off.

That theory explaining why a crazy guy gets naked is pretty far fetched, and certainly doesn't explain his appetite, unless wait a minute, unless he was also on medical marijuana.

That could explain it.  What do you think?

The Jane Austen Action Figure

Between dealing with 19th Century militias and zombies, Jane Austen was a woman who proved that the pen was indeed mightier than the sword--especially if you know where to stick it in your enemy!

Here she is complete with writing desk ready to deal with some serious "dreadful" action.

She can be bought here.
Forget those soldier action figures and get ready for some ladylike martial art action kicking dreadful butt with the help of the -------shire militia!

Semper Paratus - Even Against Zombies

The CDC came out with a wonderfully informative report a while back entitled, Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse. I thought it was a joke, until, after providing a history of Zombie lore, I read this.

Well, we’re here to answer that question for you, and hopefully share a few tips about preparing for real emergencies too!
"Real emergencies, too," get it?

Naturally I was fascinated to see where firearms and personal protection came on the list. I know what our gun-rights friends would have to say. In fact, reading them, you'd think guns first last and always, and maybe some canned goods, is all you need.
* Water (1 gallon per person per day)
* Food (stock up on non-perishable items that you eat regularly)
* Medications (this includes prescription and non-prescription meds)
* Tools and Supplies (utility knife, duct tape, battery powered radio, etc.)
* Sanitation and Hygiene (household bleach, soap, towels, etc.)
* Clothing and Bedding (a change of clothes for each family member and blankets)
* Important documents (copies of your driver’s license, passport, and birth certificate to name a few)
* First Aid supplies (although you’re a goner if a zombie bites you, you can use these supplies to treat basic cuts and lacerations that you might get during a tornado or hurricane)
Not even a mention, not even among those useful tools and supplies.

The fact is the pro-gun crowd like to paint themselves as "prepared," but their perception of what to prepare for is skewed. Why, because they like guns too much. It's that simple. They try to justify this by talking about those incredibly rare situations in which a gun MIGHT save the day, and they always fall back on the 2A right to carry a gun anywhere they want any time they want. But the fact remains, in a major emergency in which the society breaks down, their guns will be as useful as paper weights and door stops, nothing more.

Just like when crossing the street on the way to Starbucks, death will come to you in a form impervious to your personal protection piece.

Keith Olbermann is into Zombies too

I had to post this video in its entirety, for one reason to show that I'm overcoming my ADD. This is the second hour-long video I've posted (and watched) lately, and secondly because at 3:50 he says the word "zombies."

Actually, I pretty much agree with everything he says.

Zombie Snails

Thanks to Kottke. Now you know I'm not the monomaniac you thought I was; I'm also interested in zombies.

Zombies are Everywhere

As many of the commenters said, references to zombies are practically ubiquitous. But what intrigued me about this video is O'Reilly's attitude towards Beck. What do you think?
