Miami Man Killed with Assault Rifle.

The Miami Herald reports on another fatal shooting.

A 19-year-old was killed Thursday evening after a man in a car shot him with an assault rifle, Miami police said.

The incident took place about 5 p.m. in the 200 block of Northwest 56th Street, police said. Dominique Jackson was seen talking to a person inside a black car, who then pulled out an assault rifle and shot him.

The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Police interviewed residents who live in apartment complexes in the neighborhood, but had not determined who shot the man or why.

How do they know it was an assault rifle? Can they tell by the wound or by examining the bullet?

Do you think the Miami Police know what they're talking about when they use the term "assault rifle?"

Neither tells them if it was an "assault rifle."

Most likely it's the anti-gun media getting it wrong, as they almost always do.

    They don't.

The ammo used in so called "assault rifles" is the same ammo used by guns not on the '94 AWB list.

  3. is assault rifle the nice way of saying AK-47 or AR-15? If so, how would the press report the story if it was in another country say Itaq, and a drive by shooting took place on a government minister.

  4. This whole story reeks of "eyewitness testimony".

  5. This isn't the first time that Miami Police has cried "assault rifle" without any evidence as such. Next their chief will make a public call to ban all assault rifles. He does this every time there is a public shooting where the actual firearm is not recovered.

  6. Miami police have falsely called "Assault Weapon" dozens of times.

With their track record it likely wasn't.

I can buy AK pattern guns, and AR pattern guns all day long here in Massachusetts.

Hell Jay bought one recently and talks a lot about what exactly the "Assault Weapon" ban does in Mass.

His Bushmaster is NOT an "Assault Weapon" per Mass law, nor the identical expired federal law.

So long as he keeps it in its current configuration or modifies it with appropriate accessories it will continue to not be an assault weapon.

if he decides to thread the barrel, add a collapsible stock, or a bayonet lug, or a few other "evil" features, the gun will continue to function exactly the same as it does now as far as putting bullets on target and the type of bullets it throws.

Meanwhile this firearm in its configuration (I can buy an AWB compliant version here) IS an "Assault Weapon"

I won't buy one for the sole reason that without the 4-position stock it won't be as easily shot by smaller shooters, who might find shooting a .22 carbine with the wonderful control scheme of the AR platform (Eugene Stoner really hit the ball out of the park when he devised this platform).

instead I'll just stick to teaching new shooters on my 70s era Greenfield Model 60, which despite shooting the same ammo, and having a 18+1 capacity is NOT an "Assault Weapon" under the law.

Its a painfully stupid law (hence why Obama abandoned it just a few weeks into his Presidency despite his glowing support of it...for no logical reasons given).

Miami's semi-retarded police chief wants to pass a dumb law, and like all gun banners he's more than willing to openly LIE to push his agenda.

Well except for the whole "shitting where you eat" problem.

I can't help but laugh at the fact that my AR-15 which shoots .22lr, is an evil, scary "assault weapon" that strikes fear into hoplophobes.

I can buy 150 year old Chilean Mausers through the mail that are far more lethal than my .22 caliber "assault weapon"

Well its a cost-benefit analysis. Yeah the direct impingement sluges up the chamber and action faster, but it is mechanically very simple, and makes the gun so much lighter.

I used to hate the idea of it, but I'm starting to warm on the design.

  10. It's more sad than funny.

Your side has to lie to win MikeB. What do you think of that?

I think that's wrong on two counts. Mistakenly lumping guns under the heading of "assault weapons" may be wrong technically, but it is not lying.

And, my side is not "winning," I'm afraid.
