Judge Napolitano - Ilya Shapiro - John Lott

I realize they didn't try to say this was a debate, but talk about three guys who couldn't agree with each other more. Does John Lott sound strident to you?

Do you think the judge realized how funny this line was?

John, you've done some interesting work with statistics in your book.

  1. John Lott is to statistical analysis of gun issues what Ray Barton is to the evolution "controversey".

  2. How about an opposing opinion?

    Anybody mention biased media here?

  3. Opposing opinions? Well, we heard from Laci and Demo. As soon as Jade, MikeB and Paul Helmke chime in, that only leaves 5 or 6 people left on the planet in opposition.

Has it ever occurred to you and your one note song friends that there are a shitload of people who are not in agreement with you? No, of course it hasn't, the prospect of being the minority opinion is not one you folks like to think about.

John Lott is a fucking hack. He wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the ass.

  5. Demo, I assure you that we are indeed the majority.

Why do you think you can't get much of your crap through the legislature? There are probably 100 gun blogs for every anti-freedom blog out there. Finally, look at almost any gun control story on a news site that allows comments and see the pro-gun comments outnumber the hoplophobes by 5:1 or better.

  8. Yes RuffRidr, I am disputing FWM's numbers. As he knows very well, because it's come up a few times around here, I believe what accounts for those numbers is the fact that non gun owners are largely apathetic while gun owners tend to be passionate.

  10. MikeB: “believe what accounts for those numbers is the fact that non gun owners are largely apathetic while gun owners tend to be passionate.”

Exactly. Those who are passionate for gun control are few and far between. The Apathetic ones? By definition, they just don’t care. How does it help your cause to say you have the apathetic ones on your side?

Democommie, can you detail for me what makes Lott a hack? And I’m quoting you here:

Democommie 1/27/2010: “Or do you simply disagree with their conclusions. Saying the report is a problem, without saying why it's a problem is a cop out.”

For the record, I have not read Lott’s book, and I am not taking the position that more guns=less crime. But since you have read the book, I was hoping you’d shed some light on your criticism.

Sorry to break it to you Demo, but you're in the minority.

  12. TS very rightly pointed out, "Those who are passionate for gun control are few and far between. The Apathetic ones? By definition, they just don’t care. How does it help your cause to say you have the apathetic ones on your side?"

You shouldn't say you've got 100 million gun owners on your side and I won't say I have 200 million non gun owners. The majority of both groups is apathetic.

  13. I need to ask why there is a controversy at all? There are already a hell of a lot of weapons running loose. Why is there a dichotomy over how to handle guns? What about mace, stun guns, knives, sling shots, bows and arrows, and nunchakus? I grew up with guns and do not quite get when or why it became a political argument of such epic proportions. Is all this really because most Republicans are neo-cons and think the world is out to get them? That's the way it seems to me.

MikeB, I do not dispute your theory on this one as you know. But that does not make my numbers any less accurate even if they are based upon interest, apathy or passion. Why don't you discuss it with your friends and dealers at the next Anti-Gun show or the local Friends of the Brady Banquet

  16. TS:

Go to the most recent post about John Lott. He's a lying piece of shit--this, btw, is not something that the NRA is unaware of--who you people would call out in a heartbeat if he was NOT on your side.

    mikey:

On the day that you decided to own up to flat out lying about your support of gay rights--with the fervor that is equal to your support of gunzrightz--I might need to pay any attention to your alternately whiny and boastful pronouncements.

As for the gunzrightz folks being in the majority. How many members does the NRA have? Something like 4M the last I heard. That is less than 2% of the american public. How many of you guys belong to the NRA?
