The Empowering of Women

Now, I hope you're satisfied. It's not bad enough that any crackpot male loser who feels like it, can shoot up the joint, now you've got the women doing it. (Does anyone not know to whom I'm addressing this?)

Mass shootings are rarely carried out by women, said Dr. Park Dietz, president of Threat Assessment Group Inc., a Newport Beach, Calif.-based violence prevention firm.

Thanks doc for confirming what we already knew.

What's your opinion? Is this the future of gun violence in the U.S.? When are the short-sighted folks who want to arm everybody going to start singing a different tune?

Please leave a comment.

If that's supposed to be a reference to me, then the maker of the reference is even more clueless than I had supposed. I have no desire to "arm" everybody--I don't really want to arm anyone but myself. Anyone else who wants to be armed needs to get their own. Certainly, like any person of morality, I support their right to do so, but that doesn't mean I'm going to get them a gun.

It's funny--when we support people's right to keep and bear arms, we "want to arm everybody," but when we don't want our tax dollars to go to other people's medical care, we're "trying to deny people's access to health care."

Ya' can't have it both ways.

  2. Zorro's logic is, well, goofy.

This is called 'misdirection.' It's what every dimestore magician practices--getting the audience to look at his right hand making flourishes in the air--while the left hand is palming an object.

In this instance, Zorro wants you to concentrate on gun ownership rather than the ramifications of gun ownership. He doesn't want you to notice his policies WRT gun ownership ensure criminals, terrorists, the mentally and physically infirm can have unfettered access to guns.

but when we don't want our tax dollars to go to other people's medical care, we're "trying to deny people's access to health care."

This is just the result of ignorance. We already pay for the health care of others. Uninsured people merely use the ER as their medical care. As a result, all of us get to pay more for our own healthcare.

Additionally, Zorro also fails to realize he is one illness away from joining the uninsured. Should that happen, he will surely change his tune.

  3. Wow, Jade, it's frightening that you can read Zorro's mind with such accuracy.

You should take that show on the road.

Jadegold has chosen once again to demonstrate that he's a lying sack of shit (albeit one who is John Locke's intellectual superior--I still can't stop laughing). I'm not trying to hide a damned thing about "my policies WRT gun ownership"--I want everyone who is not incarcerated or institutionalized to be able to exercise their fundamental human right to possess firearms. Yes--that means some people who will do evil with firearms will have them. People who do evil with firearms have them anyway--laws won't stop them, but armed decent people might.

    And you:

. . . and physically infirm can have unfettered access to guns.

Thanks for admitting you want to disarm the handicapped, you sick, degenerate fuck.

How do you want them to defend themselves--with their fucking karate?

    Eat shit and die, punk.

  5. He doesn't want them to defend themselves, Zorro. He wants them to die, so he can either dance in their blood or make politcal hay from their deaths.

  6. The funniest thing was this bit of egotism from Zorro.

"If that's supposed to be a reference to me,..."

I will give you one thing. You at least say you don't want criminals and the mentally ill to have easy access to guns. But, the problem is the policies you support for your own easy access, help them too.

Some guys, like AztecRed, the one I was thinking of when I wrote that bit about arming everyone, actually do object to restrictions against the usually disqualified folks.

Zorro, be careful, you know mental illness is often a slippery slope. It starts out innocently enough, you begin thinking everything is about you when it's not, next you're hearing voices and after that you're shootin' up the Holocaust Museum or something.

    I'm just concerned about you.

Er--when did I say that? Obviously, it would be ideal if no one predisposed to using guns for evil could get one, but since there is no way to bring about that happy situation, particularly without making firearm acquisition for the rest of us more difficult, more time consuming, more expensive, or less private, we'll just have to deal with armed evil people.

The thugs won't hurt anyone after they themselves have been killed.

    Load up.

  8. Zorro, Sorry about mis-characterizing what you said. This sums it up batter:"I want everyone who is not incarcerated or institutionalized to be able to exercise their fundamental human right to possess firearms."

I must have confused you with a more reasonable commenter, but I can't imagine who that could have been around here (except the guys who are on my side, of course).

  9. I'm not here to be "reasonable," because I'm not trying to compromise. You don't compromise on fundamental rights. You demand them. You exercise them. You treat those who would violate them like the evil, subhuman scum that they are.

Zorro, Sorry about mis-characterizing what you said.

Actually, the confusion may have been at least partly my fault--perhaps I was unclear. When I say, "I want everyone who is not incarcerated or institutionalized to be able to . . . possess firearms," the only exceptions I refer to are those who are currently incarcerated or institutionalized. Those who have paid their debt to society should be able to reenter that society as full citizens, with all the rights of same.

Likewise, those who have been institutionalized, but have since been released (and thus apparently deemed not dangerous), can obviously not legitimately be forcibly disarmed and rendered defenseless.

  11. Speaking for the evil, subhuman scum, I'd like to say you do sound like AztecRed. I think you guys have about the same idea about who should be allowed to have guns. "If a person can't be trusted with a gun, they shouldn't be walking around free," that's about it, right.
