David Letterman is a silly guy who uses silly jokes to amuse silly people. This is one the gun owners just love, being misogynists and all. I found it on the Winston Dorian's blog.
You can read it over there if you want, but you already know what we're talking about. Gun owners, some of whom are rabid racists, would never consider telling a "nigger joke," but they'll just yuck it up over these female put-downs. Something's wrong with that.
What do you think? Please leave a comment.

ReplyDeleteOf.
Shit.
Not all gun owners are misogynists, obviously; but those who are amused by this humor certainly are.
ReplyDeleteI started to come up with a Woman's Top 10 reasons to prefer a man's gun to the man............
If I can get it to work as well, perhaps you'd run it with this link, and put that photo of the unappealing nearly naked guy with his guns with it as an illustration... I'm not completely persuaded that I want to lower myself to that level of bad taste.
But maybe?

ReplyDeleteThis:
"Gun owners, some of whom are rabid racists, would never consider telling a "nigger joke,""
is not, in my considerable personal experience, even close to true. The rest of the post is spot on.
Are the female gun owners also Misogynists?
ReplyDeleteAll right, all right, I'll change the "All" to "Most." Would that be better?
ReplyDeleteAll right, all right, I'll change the "All" to "Most." Would that be better?
ReplyDeleteSure, in the same sense that it would be "better" to say, "Most Muslims are terrorists, or support terrorism," than it would be to say, "All Muslims are terrorists, or support terrorism." Congratufuckinglations on the "improvement." Oh, and I notice you haven't changed it--so much for that promise.
I suppose I would be out of line to ask for the evidence supporting your "most gunners are misogynists" fairytale, and that I'm just supposed to accept it, because . . . because you say so, I guess. By the way, are we actually talking about most male gun owners (that ain't the only kind of gun owner, you know), or are you claiming that misogynists constitute a significant percentage of female gun owners?
I have no trouble acknowledging that some gun owners are misogynists. If you have an iota of integrity--a likelihood I'd estimate to be around 50/50, since I tend to err on the side of generosity--you'll acknowledge that some non-gun owners are misogynists. Is the rate higher among one group than the other? Presumably--it seems rather unlikely that they would be exactly equal, but I won't pretend to have any basis on which to form a conclusion on that question.
And once again I have to ask, what the hell does this have to do with me, a gun owner with exactly zero doubt of the equality of men and women? What possible reason could there be that I should have to answer for the failings of someone else, on the basis of sharing the extremely superficial characteristic of gun ownership?
I thought those jokes were more derogatory towards men than women - most of them implied all men were sluts.
ReplyDeleteAn iota of integrity for Zorroy: It's not all or most, it's some gun owners are misogynists. And, the same applies to non gun owners.
ReplyDeleteI like what one of the commenters said that making these jokes says more about the men making them than about the bitches or hos they're talking about.
What about car mechanics? A comparison, you ask? Yes, let's indulge ourselves just for a moment. How often have you seen a girly picture on the wall of a car mechanics workplace? Very often, I'd venture. Do you think, in the misogyny business, that mostly-manly trade is any different than gun owners, also a bit of a boys club? I don't, and although I have no EVIDENCE or PROOF, I'd say a "good some" of them are misogynists (racists too, but that's another discussion which we've had and promised to return at some point).
An iota of integrity for Zorroy: It's not all or most, it's some gun owners are misogynists. And, the same applies to non gun owners.
ReplyDeleteWell, that iota would be looking a lot better, had it not been undermined by your still unmet promise to change "All" to "Most."
Three days later, the title is still "All Gun Owners"--not "Most Gun Owners." Certainly not "Some Gun Owners," and sure as hell not "Some Gun Owners, And Some Non-Gun Owners."
Do you think, in the misogyny business, that mostly-manly trade is any different than gun owners, also a bit of a boys club?
So you're positing that misogyny is more prevalent in male-dominated communities than elsewhere? Is that not just another way of saying that misogyny is more prevalent among men than among women?
I won't disagree, but I submit that such a contention is more likely to win you a Captain Obvious cape, than the Nobel Prize for sociology.
