96-Year Sentence for a Non-Fatal Shooting

At first it sounds excessive, to say the least, but I suppose the courts need some flexibility when determining if a person has a reasonable chance of rehabilitating himself. What do you think?

A Lower Valley man on Friday became the latest gang defendant to be handed an effective life sentence for a nonfatal shooting.

Chad Duncan, who prosecutors said uses the nickname "Hitman," had to be escorted from the courtroom by guards after he delivered an outburst claiming the judge had no authority over him and refused to sit down.

  1. If we gave every gang member in the US a life sentence, we'd could drastically reduce gun deaths.

  2. What an interesting concept of justice you have Azred; sentencing for assocation rather than on the basis of what someone actually does (or doesn't do).

But it's for The Children®. The gun banners love violating the constitutional rights of gun owners for The Children®, so can we at least violate the rights of those who actually deserve it?

  4. Is association with a gang rather than illegal actions deserving of a life sentence?

    Apparently in your world view.

The 'for the children' premise about violating constitutional rights is another right wing conspiracy fiction.

It's not a fiction at all. You can't swing a dead cat at Brady Campaign Headquarters without hitting someone who thinks that any infringement on the 2nd Amendment is worth it as long as it's for The Children®.

Like Barack Obama's idiotic proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school for example.

  6. I don't think the infringement of the 2nd Amendment is worth it, I just don't think there's any such thing as a 2nd Amendment right. I think it's totally anachronistic and has no meaning whatever in today's world. The fact that it's been bastardized into something unrecognizable from its original intent should not be confused with real worth.

AztecRed's tough-talking nonsense is just that, tough-talking nonsense. It's like the old kill-'em-all-amd-let-god-sort-'em-out mentality.

  7. Mike should go along with Red's proposal. You know, shared responsibility and all.
