How to Light a Cigarette With a Gun

  1. I'm with the legendary stuntman, writer / director Hal Needham, when he said in interviews before his death that CGI action was boring, and that he preferred the action in movies, and other forms of entertainment that were pre-CGI performed by real people (and animals - he was an extraordinary rider and trainer of horses).

The stuff that has derived from the Matrix series and the Sneezing Dragon, Silly Tiger movie (or whatever the actual name is of that movie) are too stylized, too contrived to be exciting.

I recently watched parts of the classic epic Ben Hur, and then listened to an interview about its filming. That was directed by the even more legendary stuntman turned director 'Yakima' Canutt, with Charlton Heston stunt doubled and all of the horse-related scenes in it arranged by his son Joe Canutt.

This sort of highly contrived stupidity is exactly what appeals to the gonads of the non-critically thinking crowd that prefers fantasy to reality, or in the case of entertainment, at least more realistic fakery.

  2. I kinda like this silly stuff as long as it's 3 minutes at a time. I don't think I'd sit through a whole movie of it.
