Arizona's Ron Gould the Next J.T. Ready

I can't believe there are enough knuckleheads in Arizona to warrant this kind of ad campaign. I guess that shows how naive I am still.

I would have thought, after Loughner and Ready, the guys who feel like this would play it down a little bit.  But I guess I was wrong.

What's your opinion?  Please leave a comment.

  1. C'mon, Mike...You've been dealing with these folks and their ilk long enough to realize that this kind of attitude and talk makes them feel good.
Look at Romney and his campaign. In the lead up to the present, every Republican Presidential contender accused and acknowledged Romney as being a manipulative, opportunist liar...yet now they are all behind him...it's not so much as what they actually believe, but the phenomena, like religion of wanting to believe that they believe...
This is what they want to hear and it makes them feel good to hear it actually said...the fascist formula of excusing an extreme statement by saying, "I'm just saying out loud what everyone is privately thinking."
In reality, this is not so. We all have our demons, but it's as if we need permission to unlock the gates of our psyche where the demons are chained. Ron Gould is doing just that. He in effect destroying our inhibitions against social anarchistic violence with his language and imagery. As I said, we all have demons, desires and impulses, but we need the "permission" to go there. Ron is being an enabler.

  2. Mikeb, are you being offensive or stupid? I can't tell sometimes. What in that commercial makes this man sound like Ready? Oh, right, he has a gun, and you can't tell the difference.

    1. The problem is that too often there isn't a difference in people who try to get votes posing with a gun.

We distrust anyone who has to promote this kind of image to be perceived as strong. People like this - like you - are weak individuals trying to compensate for their inadequacies, worshipping a delusional fantasy.

It is the gun culture committing the gun violence.

    2. Dog Gone, you're like one of Pavlov's dogs. You salivate at the sight of a gun without even bothering to engage your brain. You don't know me, and I suspect that you don't know the man in the video, but you spout all manner of nonsense about us.

But those of us who read this blog are on to you. We know what little value there is in your words. You could try to offer evidence--not conjecture, but actual evidence--to support your assertions, but that would require you to use the critical thinking skills of which you speak so highly. Just for the sake of variety, you should try that some time.

    3. Greg, that's really funny asking what makes this guy and Ready alike.

Why do you keep defending these people? You lose credibility in your other claim the "the vast majority" of gun owners are good responsible citizens when you support those who are not.

    4. But you've shown us nothing to say that this man isn't a responsible gun owner. What's your evidence, beyond the fact that he shows a gun in his commercial? We see here that you want guns to be abhorrent, like a skin disease, something to keep hidden. But that's not how things work in this country.

  3. You are always on about how so and so should not have had a gun, and of course it is always after the fact using your amazing powers of perfect hindsight vision. Are you being so bold as to “call your shot” this time? Is this man a hidden criminal that should be disarmed otherwise he will kill someone?

    1. It is very simple TS, if far fewer people had guns, then we would not need to second guess or engage in hindsight - because these things wouldn't be occurring.

    2. To follow your line of "reasoning," Dog Gone, we should monitor everyone, since any American citizen might be up to something wicked. If there were fewer or no freedoms, we wouldn't have to engage in hindsight.

That's not a country that I want to live in.

    3. Dog Gone is exactly right. By raising the bar a good little bit as to who can own guns, we'd be disarming many of the borderline and hidden criminals.

Guys who talk like this guy are nut jobs. If he's not a hidden criminal who can be identified as such on his record, many of his followers are. It's bad news all around.

If I were a responsible gun owner, I'd distance myself from guys like this. But the fact that you guys support him, and so many other questionable characters, just proves my point that there's very little difference between lawful gun owners and criminal gun owners. Oh, I know you draw the line at the gang members and drug dealers, but that's not enough. As we show you day in and day out, they aren't the only ones causing trouble with guns.

    4. I know nothing about him, beyond what I saw in the video. You're the one making judgements on no evidence. What's your problem with this man? You too often put things up without any detailed commentary on what you see.
