P.S. the comment approval system is stupid.

Then don't bloody comment.

We did this because some anonymous posters were just not following the rules (Seriously, if I'm supposed to be nice...).

Besides, the First Amendment does not apply to private individuals, only governmental action--and the governmental action of the United States and its territories at that!

We are under no obligation to publish your comments, or even to read them. And this includes responding to your idiotic comments.

Although, we will let most of them through, even just for pure amusement purposes!

Despite what you may think, moderation is not censorship--especially if it keeps the dialogue on topic and civilised.

I might even be polite to you if you can behave.

Although, I do have to admit that things are pretty quiet now without the sock puppet chorus!

  1. I never said Mikeb could not institute such a system, I just think it is stupid to do so. Of course it is his blog and so the rules get to be whatever he wants. I just liked the ability to make a quick comment without having to decipher two "words" that are hard as hell to read and it is dissapointing to not know whether a really valid point is simply being witheld based on your bias against gun owners.

    1. JimF, reiterate:

In more clear language, if it ain't personal, insulting, or seriously off topic, it'll get through.

BTW, Jimmy, I've been shooting since I was 6 years old, served in a combat arm of the military, and own guns--which are properly registered and stored according to law.

"bias against gun owners" is just plain off rubbish.

    2. I apologise if the captcha is hard to read. Some are easier to read than others.

  2. Jim F, it is not now or ever that a valid point isn't getting through. THAT is what some people whine about, but it is not factually accurate.

Some singularly stupid stuff has been posted here in comments, that was not factual.

I'm thinking off hand of the Lott Lime story that claimed that in the UK you couild not buy limes because of a terrorism law -- that one originated from what appears to be a hoax story in the Daily Mail that John Lott posted as fact on his web site -- and instead of thinking critically or fact checking, one of our commenters posted it here as fact.

Another one came from a regular commenter, who habitually posts some really off the wall stuff, claiming that the Japanese did not invade in WW II because of the population having hand guns and hunting rifles.

Remember Pearl Harbor? They attacked one of our miliarty bases where the weapons were far heavier duty than hand guns and deer rifles. What clearly and beyond any doubt stopped the Japanese was our superior forces, in contrasat to their losses -- they had taken on a very large area extending from Japan to China and beyond and into parts of Australia which they bombed like Pearl Harbor, they were stretched very thin with very long supply lines.

The apparent source for what Orlin Silly or maybe it was Captain Crunchy took as fact was a web site that proposed to have heard it all something like sixth hand from Japanese officers 'who were in the know' ---ALL NAMELESS, ALL UNVERIFIED heresay that was not corroborated with a single fact. The concept of multi-sourcing or of evaluation of the quality and reliability of sources from the gun view point is consitently abysmally poor.

THAT is what the sock puppets refer to -- little dummies who will say whatever baloney they hear or are told to repeat. The dearth of an ability of logic and reasoning or any form of objective research and critical thinking is so utterly lacking on the pro-gunners side, that the image to portray that kind of commenter is perfectly captured by a funny looking puppet with no brain inside the head, as a face for someone else's voice.

    2. I should also add that on 7 December 1941, not only was Pearl Harbour attacked, but it also started the falls of Hong Kong and Singapore.

    3. Billy Boy, I think we can show that those sources are far more accurate than the gunloon crowd.

First off, the "Second Amendment Scholarship" is just pure BS--half truths and misquotations which totally change history.

And, no, I wasn't force fed it from any of the three groups but it came from my own personal experience and research.

So, unless you can back up your statements with some serious facts, keep it to yerself.

I don't know what that is, I suppose I'll have to check it out.

"So, unless you can back up your statements with some serious facts, keep it to yerself."

Oh, so this is going to be a fact based blog now? Both sides? This'll be fun.

    5. Try not to overheat your brain, Billy Boy,

Well, if not facts, we can at least say its conjecture.

But, given your difficulty in dealing with my universe, this could be interesting.

  3. Laci - does another moderator have to approve your comments before they appear?

    1. Somebody say something about letting dumb questions through?

Since I am one of the blog contributors--the answer should be fairly obvious.

We all have full admin powers, but we work as a team.

This new system only exists because some of the comments coming through were not just off topic, but down right personal in addition to violating the blog's fairly liberal commenting policy.

Furthermore, it is against blogger policy to publish personal information in post or comment.
