It's Bloomsday!

And people are out doing readings from James Joyce's Ulysses around the town.

This event is not just limited to where I live, but seems to be worldwide.

  1. Years ago I saw Fionulla Flannagan do a mostly one woman presentation of Joyce at the Guthrie theater in Minneapolis. One excerpt from Joyce required her to do a 20 minute monologue, in the nude, uncovered, on a big brass bed.

It was a tribute to Joyce and to Ms. Flannagan that she could rapidly make the audience stop paying attention to her state of undress, and considerable charms, and make them instead concentrate on what she was saying.

Those Irish have a rare way with words.
