What is it that he did for a job? Oh, right, ran into other outsized human beings. Without a gun, he'd have done something else. He might still be alive to face charges, but she'd be dead. The problem is the man, not the method.
"...if Belcher didn't posses a gun, he and Perkins would both be alive today"
Whitlock is an idiot for writing that and Costas is an idiot for repeating it. I suppose it's outside realm of possibility that Belcher could have just beat her to death.
Bill, why do you refuse to accept the idea that a gun is more efficient and more lethal, compared to beating her up for example. And then what did you have him do in your fantasy defense of the gun, beat himself to death too?
mikeb, I agree that using the gun was probably the most efficient way to kill her, but to suggest that she would not be dead if he didn't have a gun is ridiculous, he could have easily beat her to death. As far as taking his own life, the gun was probably the most efficient thing to use, but not having a gun doesn't prevent someone from killing themselves, if that was the case, people in prison wouldn't be killing themselves at a rate of three times more than people that have access to guns.
Costas could have taken the opportunity to discus domestic violence because this was a domestic violence issue, not a gun issue.
mikeb, that's exactly what they both said. If Whitlock would have used the word 'maybe', that would be a different story, but he dismissed all other possibilities of harm without even considering them. I stand by my statement that Whitlock is an idiot for writing it and Costas is an idiot for repeating it.
Whitlock was saying what he believes, what he guesses. No one can know what would have happened if we turned the clock back. Furthermore, many people agree with him, everyone actually except the biased gun folks who have something to lose with such an admission.
He's welcome to say what he believes, as are you. But lots of people are on the gun-rights side. But take your statement about how we have something to lose. That implies that you believe us to be unfit gun owners. You deny that you want to take guns away from all Americans, but at the same time, you express your doubts about all of us. Before you say that you only doubt the ones who comment here, note that you hardly ever have anything good to say about a gun owner. If someone spewed racial slurs constantly and criticized just about every black person he ever heard about, you'd have reason to doubt his claim that he wasn't a racist.

Evidently Bob has never heard the name Nicole Brown Simpson.

BB, don't blame Costas for his idiotic remark, blame his microphone.

you would have though that OJ would have mentioned her at least once or twice.
DeleteBill, no one is saying that without a gun murder and suicide are impossible. The fact is they are less likely, that's all.
DeleteThen why is the homicide rate in Puerto Rico so much higher than in the U.S. states?
