Lawful Gun Owner and Long-Time Hidden Criminal Jimmy Lee Dykes is Dead

Huffington Post reports with video.  Our previous posts here and here.

The standoff between law enforcement and an Alabama man who held a boy in a bunker for seven days ended with the suspect dead and the 5-year-old safely rescued.

Reports of an explosion at Jimmy Lee Dykes' Midland City property came first on Monday afternoon, followed by media reports of the 65-year-old's death.

The boy, identified only as Ethan, was transported to a hospital, state Rep. Steve Clouse told CNN. He appeared physically unharmed, according to reports.

  1. You're loose with that term, lawful, but what are you saying? Everyone is lawful until the person commits a crime. We can't base our laws on the idea that everyone is a potential criminal. That would turn the whole nation into a prison.

    1. Of course we can't base our laws on the idea that everyone is a potential criminal, but you can stop pretending that all lawful gun owners are responsible and fit. They're not.

    2. The vast majority are--more than 99%.

    3. Since we can't base our laws on the idea that everyone is a potential criminal, I have some questions. What percentage of gun owners must be "responsible and fit", per your definition, to avoid further infringement upon civil liberty? Or, is it your position that regardless of the percentage, more gun control laws are needed?

    4. Do we base our laws against murder and robbery on the idea that everyone is a potential criminal? I guess you could say that if you wanted to make an absurd argument against laws.

You know whose civil liberties are being infringed upon? All the people who are victims of gun violence due to easy theft and the lack of safe storage laws and the easy gun flow into the criminal world due to private unregulated sales of guns.

If you gun owners were really responsible, more of you, we would have to have this conversation.

  2. But that's why laws exist, because everyone is a potential criminal. Your last comment was pretty stupid. Just being honest.
