Gun Range Accident in Maryland - Man Dead

 Local news reports

Charles County investigators believe a Hughesville man died Saturday after accidentally shooting himself with his own handgun at an indoor firing range in Waldorf.

Officers arrived at 9:23 a.m. at the St. Charles Sportsman’s Club at 4045 Renner Road, where they found Patrick Allen Richards, 61, dead from a single gunshot wound to his upper body.

Investigators determined that Richards had gone to the range to shoot his handgun. While there, the gun fired, striking him once in the upper body.
He was definitely a lawful gun owner, another one of the irresponsible ones. But, I wonder if he also had a carry permit. What do you think?

  1. Since it happened in Maryland, it's highly unlikely that the man had a carry license. Basic research, Mikeb, basic research.

  3. Presuming the comment above is correct, it appears that Mikeb and I were both wrong. This man was not merely an ordinary citizen with or without a carry license--as rare as the latter are in Maryland. He was a member of law enforcement.
