Of course he said nothing of the sort, as he wasn't trying to speculate on what "most" gun owners are politically- in fact specifically speaking against attempts at political classification. This story was largely personal, about how people trying to put him into a bucket based on his stance on one issue.
Have you heard political commentators on the left talk about how the one social issue they seem to be losing on is guns? That should tell you something.
I support marriage equality, a woman's right to control her own body, and universal healthcare. I accept the science of climate change and support renewable energy. I oppose establishing one religion as official. So I'm an example of someone who isn't the stereotype of the gun rights supporter.
I'll grant you that most conservatives support gun rights. But then, most Americans do as well whenever the matter comes up for a vote. They support gun rights whenever the truth about gun control is asked in polls. And that includes a lot of Democrats. In fact, to build on TS's point, I argue that Democratic politicians would do a lot better in elections in most of America if they'd repudiate gun control. But they can't seem to give that up, no matter how important gun rights are to voters.
That sure was a half-assed agreement. You really think most citizens support gun rights? You are delusional. The proof will be coming in the next couple of elections, but I already know nothing would convince you.
Supporting the second amendment is not the same as supporting the extremist platform of gun loons. Polls tell us that many of the same people who support the second amendment also support background checks, mental health background checks, gun safes, waiting periods, limited magazine capacity, and other regulations that do not infringe on a persons right to buy, own, and use a gun.

ReplyDeleteBut no one is doing that. Just the fact that he's black and in good shape makes him an exception. His whole video is one big straw man.

ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't.

Nevertheless, most gun rights advocates are conservative, right-wing idiots.

DeleteWe've discussed this before. Elections turn on a long list of things. But Democrats aren't popular right now.
