Jeffrey Denning: Have Plan to Kill Everyone You Meet

Well...alrighty, then.

Jeffy Denning is a gunloon and professional bullshit artist who has never been in a gunfight.  But like most gunloons, Jeffy feels pretty comfortable telling everyone exactly what they should do in a gunfight.  He has written "20 rules for winning a gunfight" in Guns.com--a firearms industry astroturf site.

Some of the "rules" Jeffy lays out are, well,...unsound.  Let's take Rule 1: "  Be prepared to stop a co-worker, a neighbor, a teammate, friend or even a relative.  You may have to physically hurt or kill someone that you know or someone you’ve talked with or like or someone you think you know well."

Not so bad.  After all, most gunloon shootings don't involve strangers; they're usually friends or intimate acquaintances.  But here's Rule 2: "Have plan to kill everyone you meet."

Uh oh.  If you take Rule 1 and Rule 2 to heart, this means when you see your kindergarten-age daughter--you're not thinking about how cute she is and how much you love her.  Instead, you wondering if that garden hose could be used as a garrote.  The guy in the pew in front of you at church?  Maybe the hymnal could crack his skull.  This thinking probably is indicative of Denning's job-hopping; after all, few employers are wild about having employees that are consta
ntly thinking of killing everyone.

Point is. should someone who is constantly harboring homicidal thoughts be allowed near so much as a butter knife?

  1. Jade on the opinion that this guy is a TOOL of epic proportions we can certainly agree on though likely for different reasons would we think this, but to say he has never been in a gun fight is probably inaccurate given his background.

This something you know Jade? Or are you just assuming he'd talk it up? He does seem to have been in some exciting places and done some interesting things.

"Jeffrey Denning is a former SWAT team leader, Iraqi war vet, Diplomatic Security specialist in Israel/Palestine, Federal Air Marshal, and subject matter expert for a classified contract with a US government customer. He has won multiple Top Gun shooting awards. He holds a master's degree in military special operations with an emphasis in terrorism and a bachelor's degree in law enforcement administration. He is the founder and director of the nonprofit organization Warrior SOS."

    1. Take a little bit harder look at his self-written resume.

" Diplomatic Security specialist in Israel/Palestine, Federal Air Marshal" These are both fairly low paying jobs; they are on the higher end of the security guard ladder. In fact, I personally know someone who was a contract security specialist (worked for DynCorp--same as Denning) for Colin Powell when he was SoS. Money's not great and the requirements aren't all that stringent.

"multiple Top Gun shooting awards"--you're aware that most shooting ranges hold Top Gun competitions? It's kind of like winning your company's golf tournament.

master's degree in military special operations? It's from AMU --an online degree program. BTW, there is no masters program at AMU for military special ops.

nonprofit organization Warrior SOS -- take a look at this. It's little more than a blog.

Again, you really have to question someone who presents himself as the end all and be all of military tactics and security winding up writing for Guns.com and a blog nobody reads?

I don't take anyone's claimed wisdom as gospel unless it will work in my situation. I actually prefer these rules,

      http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/ccw/gunfight_rules.htm

Some of Denning's rules seem to come from this list. Though this is my favorite,

"24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than “4″."

"Again, you really have to question someone who presents himself as the end all and be all of military tactics and security winding up writing for Guns.com and a blog nobody reads?"

Mike seems to read and post their articles here fairly regularly.

    3. You're deflecting again, SSG.

The issues you wish to ignore are: 1. Here's a guy whose gunfighting expertise is nil, yet he feels comfortable portraying himself an expert on the subject. 2. One has to question the mental health/temperament of someone who is thinking about killing everyone he encounters.3. Denning's resume is inflated to the point I would say it is exaggerated. 4.He seems to miss the most important rule in any confrontation: avoidance. This clearly is just another gunloon blowhard who is just itching for something he absolutely has no experience with. 5. There's an unhealthy dose of misogynist fantasy when he ruminates about killing pregnant women.

    4. "and a blog nobody reads?" This statement does not seem to be true unless you are calling yourself and Mike nobodys. I would hazard a guess that GUNS.com has just a few more readers than the blog on which your current post appears

"There's an unhealthy dose of misogynist fantasy when he ruminates about killing pregnant women." This is just pure fantasy on your part Jade..I know I know all men except for a very few hate women especially white men, this has been a standard talking point for the Demozombie party as well as many feminazi organizations for years but all the lying and insinuation does not make any of it truth.

ss, do you really think my posting stuff from Guns dot com means I think they're world view is the right one?

I merely mentioned that as a counterpoint to Jade's assertion that no one reads Guns.com. Use doesn't equal approval.

    7. Nobody reads it. Why? Because it's 'written' by a bunch of gunloons who have embellished their resumes to the point of parody. They merely parrot the latest NRA blast faxes.

    8. A perfect example of SS's distortion of facts. You would want this guy for president after reading SS's resume of his past. The military attracts those who want to kill. The military teaches and fosters the ways to kill and "how to" do it. That military experience is leading record numbers of military men to commit suicide and live with mental problems. There is plenty of evidence that killing, wanting to kill, always thinking of killing, is unhealthy.

    9. Jade, I can't help but notice that you left out "SWAT team leader" and "Iraqi war vet" out of your explanation for why you assume he has never been in a gun fight- you know, the two credentials that have the highest probability of involving a gun fight.

    10. TS: didn't leave it out--it's just not germane. Denning was in the Army National Guard and presumably went to Iraq. Believe it or not, most of our troops in Iraq never saw combat. BTW, combat is much, much different than a gunfight. For example, one could be directing Predator strikes on a target--are you in a gunfight? No. You could be working in a combat zone as a civil engineer--are you in a gunfight? No. The larger point is that combat isn't a gunfight--except in Rambo movies.

Re SWAT Team leader--not quite. He was a team leader for a Special Reaction Team which encompasses many aspects--not just what you see on TV shows.

This guy's resume is so inflated it should be floating over stadiums on Saturdays and Sundays.

Considering that Dennings' undergrad major was law enforcement admin, it would be quite likely that he would choose to branch Military Police upon commissioning. At the time he was there, the Army was woefully short of MP units, so they would take other units and make ad-hoc MP companies called Security Force Companies.
My tank company was one such unit. However, tank companies are pretty small manpower wise, so they pulled in cook, clerks, and jerks and after being trained, put them in unarmored HMMWVs and sent them on missions.
After I got back, I helped train many such units. Plus, an insurgency's lack of clear lines of battle also insure that being, say an engineer still holds the possibility of a gunfight.
Directing Predator strikes? You mean like something commonly called a Forward Air Controller? Or maybe a Forward Observer? Also known as a guy that has to say, lase a target while being shot at? Or do you think that everyone who works with them stay in the rear and drink coffee?

Anon, you should read Jade's comment regarding the number of soldiers who have jobs that aren't considered direct combat. That is largely correct, though as I also said, having a job as a mechanic doesn't mean you might not have to rely on your weapon. Just ask the people in Jessica Lynch's unit.
There's an interesting book on how soldiers are trained that I found interesting. Its titled "On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society" by David Grossman.

    13. SS, so why did you distort this guys record? Why are so many soldiers killing themselves? Why are there so many mental problems coming out of the troops?

    14. What do you believe I distorted Anon?

    15. Jade stated it perfectly. Like a typical liar pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. Next lie SS.......

  3. The current incarnation of Batman in the comics subscribes to both rules. I'll leave it at that.

  4. Wow!!! guns.com! Dumbshit-land. Right below super-dummie Jeff's editorial three pics.

A girl's tits with the caption, "sweater puppies." Another girl flashing her beaver. A picture of a huge bomb or something captioned vaguely about WWIII. Real high-brow, intellectual stuff.

    At least I don't feel dirty like I do when I visit a hard-core right-wing site.

Actually, if I lived in gunloon-land, I would probably buy into this be ready to kill at any given moment 110%. It's the only logical conclusion to be drawn from this paranoid mentality. How many years have I been saying, "Before I am going to buy a gun, I have to ask myself, just who exactly is it that I wish to kill?"

I think that Jeffrey's thoughts on this ridiculous subject make about as much sense as anything that I have read on this forum.

  5. I like this one:

    9. Don’t hesitate.

Hesitation kills. Hesitation is your enemy–but so is shooting too fast.

Most of the stories I post are of guys who only read two-thirds of that suggestion - of just the title.
