GOP Hatred Loses More Ground - President Obama Named "Most Admired Man in the World"
They call him a Kenyan Muslim Socialist Marxist Communist Dictator. The lies and disrespect they’ve spread about him are unprecedented of any other President in history.
All the while, his approval ratings grow. He smirks and shrugs it off while his policies and actions continue to help our country out of the hole created by his predecessor.
He is the President of the United States of America, and whether they like it or not, he is admired and respected by more people in this country than any other man, for the seventh year in a row.
Gallup released its annual poll of who Americans admire most, and President Obama topped the list. While the sitting President typically gets the nod for the most admired man, Obama’s reign in the top spot is especially significant when you consider how far the right has gone to discredit his every move, obstruct his entire agenda and disrespect him and his family over the dumbest of non-issues.
Obama has appeared on the top 10 list each year since 2006, including ranking No. 1 in each of the last seven years, all by healthy margins over the second-place finisher. The incumbent president is nearly always the winner of the most admired distinction, having placed first in all but 12 of the 68 years the question has been asked.Democrats and Democratic leaners widely choose Hillary Clinton (20%) and Barack Obama (33%) as the most admired woman and man, respectively. Not unexpectedly, Republicans and Republican leaners are much less likely to name either as their most admired. In fact, former Secretary of State Rice edges out Winfrey and Clinton as the most admired woman among Republicans. Obama and Pope Francis tie as the most admired man among Republicans, at 8%.Republicans’ and Democrats’ top five most admired women include both Clinton and Winfrey, and their top five most admired men include both the president and the pope. Beyond these, their choices differ.

George Zimmerman: Obama Turned Americans Against Me

Huffington Post
George Zimmerman, the man acquitted in the murder of Trayvon Martin, said President Barack Obama turned Americans against him.
In an interview posted online Monday by his lawyer, Zimmerman argues Obama shouldn't have weighed in on his case. He said "Barack Hussein Obama" was who he blamed for what his attorney called "the highest level of unfairness" in the aftermath of Martin's death.
"President Obama held his Rose Garden speech stating, 'If I had a son he would look like Trayvon.' To me that was clearly a dereliction of duty pitting Americans against each other solely based on race," Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman said he felt "prosecuted by the federal government" because of Obama's remarks, and said he thinks someone like Obama should "not interject himself in a local law enforcement matter or a state matter."
"Instead of rushing to judgment, making racially charged comments and pitting American against American, I believe that he should have taken the higher road given his position and said -- been an example, been a leader as the president should be, and say let's not rush to judgment," Zimmerman said. "As I’m sure he would want that same luxury afforded to him if he was accused of something, and asked for calm, ask for peace."

ACLU Files New Lawsuit Over Obama Administration Drone 'Kill List'

Link provided by George Jefferson
As the US debates expanding its campaign against the Islamic State beyond Iraq and Syria, the leading US civil liberties group is intensifying its efforts to force transparency about lethal US counterterrorism strikes and authorities.
On Monday, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) will file a disclosure lawsuit for secret Obama administration documents specifying, among other things, the criteria for placement on the so-called “kill list” for drone strikes and other deadly force.
Information sought by the ACLU includes long-secret analyses establishing the legal basis for what the administration terms its “targeted killing program” and the process by which the administration determines that civilians are unlikely to be killed before launching a strike, as well as verification mechanisms afterward to establish if the strike in fact has caused civilian deaths.
The suit, to be filed in a New York federal court, also seeks basic data the Obama administration has withheld about “the number and identities of individuals killed or injured” in counterterrorism strikes, according to the ACLU filing. In February 2013, Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who favors the drone strikes, estimated they had killed 4,700 people.
White House Office to Delete its FOIA Regulations
USA Today link provided by George Jefferson
The White House is removing a federal regulation that subjects its Office of Administration to the Freedom of Information Act, making official a policy under Presidents Bush and Obama to reject requests for records to that office.
The White House said the cleanup of FOIA regulations is consistent with court rulings that hold that the office is not subject to the transparency law. The office handles, among otherhyp things, White House record-keeping duties like the archiving of e-mails.
But the timing of the move raised eyebrows among transparency advocates, coming on National Freedom of Information Day and during a national debate over the preservation of Obama administration records. It's also Sunshine Week, an effort by news organizations and watchdog groups to highlight issues of government transparency.
"The irony of this being Sunshine Week is not lost on me," said Anne Weismann of the liberal Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW.
"It is completely out of step with the president's supposed commitment to transparency," she said. "That is a critical office, especially if you want to know, for example, how the White House is dealing with e-mail."

The Gross Hypocrisy of Benjamin Netanyahu
Slate
Benjamin Netanyahu says his speech against President Obama’s Iran policy, delivered on the floor of Congress, shouldn’t be taken as an affront. “My speech is not intended to show any disrespect to President Obama,” Netanyahu told AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby group, on Monday. In his remarks to Congress on Tuesday morning, the prime minister brushed aside those who “perceive my being here as political.”
But back home, Netanyahu shows no such tolerance. He claims to
represent not just all Israelis, but all Jews. When critics question his
policies, he purges them from office, challenges their patriotism, and
accuses them of serving foreign masters. If anyone were to do in Israel
what Netanyahu has just done here—walk into the nation’s parliament at
the unilateral invitation of an opposition party and deliver a speech
against the government’s foreign policy—Netanyahu would have cried
treason.
Let’s get a few excuses out of the way. First, the indisputable
purpose of this speech was to enlist Congress as a weapon against Obama.
Two weeks ago, according to Haaretz,
Israel’s ambassador to the United States—the Netanyahu protégé who
negotiated the speaking engagement—told officials in Jerusalem that
Netanyahu was going to Congress because Israel “has almost no ability to
influence the negotiations through other channels.” Last Friday,
campaigning in Israel, Netanyahu said he was coming here to lobby “the only body that may prevent”
the Iran deal. The gist of both statements is obvious: Netanyahu
doesn’t like Obama’s policy, so he’s trying to use Congress to block it.
Netanyahu says he’s doing this only because Iranian nukes are an existential threat to Israel. But this isn’t the first time
Netanyahu has publicly challenged Obama. The last time he did
it—lecturing Obama in the Oval Office, in front of television cameras,
for seven minutes in May 2011—the subject wasn’t Iran. It was peace talks with the Palestinians.
In Israel, Netanyahu is exploiting his fight with the administration. He accuses his rivals in the center and on the left of “groveling to the international community” while he stands up to foreign pressure. A Likud campaign ad
casts Netanyahu in the tradition of past Israeli leaders who, according
to the ad, defied “the American secretary of state” and “the American
State Department.”
So let’s be clear: Netanyahu has come here to defy Obama. He has done
so because confrontation is in his nature. And he’s politicizing it.
You can dismiss all his protestations that the speech shouldn’t be taken
as an assault on the authority of our head of state. Because that’s
exactly how Netanyahu treats criticism of his own policies back home.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey on the Bergdahl Swap

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey, the highest-ranking American military officer.
Business Insider
The U.S.' top military official on Tuesday defended the controversial prisoner swap that freed Army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, even as he said the military would look into the circumstances surrounding Bergdahl's capture.
"Like any American, he is innocent until proven guilty," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey said in a statement Tuesday morning.
"Our Army’s leaders will not look away from misconduct if it occurred," the statement continued. But Dempsey defended the Obama administration's decision amid a burgeoning controversy over its decision to free five prisoners held in Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Bergdahl's release.
After the weekend prisoner exchange, several soldiers who served with Bergdahl said he willingly deserted his unit. And Republican lawmakers have leveled claims that the swap was illegal because it proceeded without a timely notification of Congress.
Dempsey said the deal presented the "last, best opportunity" to recover Bergdahl. He said freeing U.S. soldiers from enemy captivity is a priority regardless of the speculation about Bergdahl's conduct. And he thanked those who tried, and ultimately succeeded, in securing Bergdahl's release.
Here's Dempsey's full statement:
"In response to those of you interested in my personal judgments about the recovery of SGT Bowe Bergdahl, the questions about this particular soldier’s conduct are separate from our effort to recover ANY U.S. service member in enemy captivity. This was likely the last, best opportunity to free him. As for the circumstances of his capture, when he is able to provide them, we’ll learn the facts. Like any American, he is innocent until proven guilty. Our Army’s leaders will not look away from misconduct if it occurred. In the meantime, we will continue to care for him and his family. Finally, I want to thank those who for almost five years worked to find him, prepared to rescue him, and ultimately put themselves at risk to recover him."

Malloy Issues ACA Challenge to NRA

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy
Commemorating Connecticut's first anniversary of tougher gun laws, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy didn't mince words on Thursday, loudly challenging the National Rifle Association to support the federal Affordable Care Act and help expand opportunities for mental-health treatment.
Speaking in the same spot in an ornate Capitol meeting room where on April 4 of last year he signed gun restrictions in response to the Newtown School massacre, Malloy said that while the NRA professes to support enhanced mental-health opportunities, in reality it doesn't.
"There are those who will say this is not a gun problem, it's a mental-health problem, and today I want to challenge that," he said. "If it's a mental-health problem, NRA, why aren't you advocating for the ACA? Why aren't you criticizing governors who will not allow Medicaid to be delivered to their citizens, with its mental-health component? NRA, if you're serious about making America safer, you would join Connecticut, as we have had one of the most successful rollouts of the ACA, bringing mental-health treatment to tens of thousands of people who might not otherwise have it."
This very interesting article brings up a real problem. When gun-rights extremism meets racist Obama-hate, things get bogged down. This is a perfect example.
