The Minutemen Turn to Murder

The Huffington Post reported on the sordid story of the home invasion in Phoenix which left two dead including a 9-year-old girl.

Two of three people arrested in a southern Arizona home invasion that left a little girl and her father dead had connections to a Washington state anti-illegal immigration group that conducts border watch activities in Arizona.

Jason Eugene Bush, 34, Shawna Forde, 41, and Albert Robert Gaxiola, 42, have been charged with two counts each of first-degree murder and other charges, said Sheriff Clarence Dupnik of Pima County, Ariz.

The trio are alleged to have dressed as law enforcement officers and forced their way into a home about 10 miles north of the Mexican border in rural Arivaca on May 30, wounding a woman and fatally shooting her husband and their 9-year-old daughter. Their motive was financial, Dupnik said.

"Border watch activities in Arizona" are what exactly? Are they support to the already beefed-up border patrols the Obama administration has implemented recently? Do these "immigration watch" groups assist the regular INS officers or local law enforcement?

Forde is the leader of Minutemen American Defense, a small border watch group, and Bush goes by the nickname "Gunny" and is its operations director, according to the group's Web site. She is from Everett, Wash., has recently been living in Arizona and was once associated with the better known and larger Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

Of course the group denied all knowledge and complicity on their web site. What else could they do? But, I wonder if these three, Bush, Forde, and Gaxiola are just the fringe element of an already extreme right-wing group, or if they're fairly representative of the membership at large. What do you think?

What I think is what one of the commenters said on the HuffPo post. These are, "Criminals, wrapping themselves in the flag while killing a child."

Isn't it ironic that Phoenix is supposed to have increased crime in general and home invasions in particular, all blamed on the Mexican drug cartels, yet this one was conducted by red-blooded Americans who fancy themselves patriots?

What's your opinion? Do the Minutemen organizations sound like hate groups to you? Aren't immigrants one of the main recipient groups of hate crimes?

Please leave a comment.

  1. I note you didn't include several pertinent parts MikeB:

""She's someone who even within the anti-immigration movement has been labeled as unstable," Levin said. "She was basically forced out of another anti-immigrant group, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, and then founded her own organization."

Why did you leave that out?

"Do the Minutemen organizations sound like hate groups to you? "

Nope. The original is trying to follow the law while the Gov't lets millions of people break it.

"Aren't immigrants one of the main recipient groups of hate crimes?"

Why don't you do some research and tell us? Defend your claims.

  2. Morning MikeB and MikeB fans.
    Liberal gun owner here.

I want to commend you for not running right wing extremist site.
I'm sure you're thinking you don't need my approval.
Well, in any case, gun blogs tend to be that way.

Yeah, ya know that the situation at the border has to change.
Wanna reduce the killing? I do.
    Let's try two things.
    1) A documented guest worker program.
    2) Legalize pot.

You see, you must put yourself in the immigrants place for a minute.
You can't find work and your precious babies are starving. You have two choices. 1) swim the river and hang out at Home Depot.
    2) be a drug mule for the cartels.

Remember, you'd be less than a man if you don't feed those babies.
    Now choose....

I'm not sure I'd call the murederers Minutemen. The minutemen ay least started with good intentions, and I'm sure most do the right thing.

  3. This is hardly surprising considering the makeup of these so-called protectors of American life. These groups are made up of racist degenerates who have little regard for anyone or any race.

Homeland security put out a bulletin suggesting these and other right wing groups would be on the upswing in both numbers and violence. So far they appear to be correct.

  4. Sekan - Gun bloggers run "right wing extremist" sites? I'd say gun bloggers are more Libertarian than anything.

Jammer - Nice of you to paint the minutemen as a bunch of racist nutjobs instead of actually READING the article Mike linked to.

  5. Mike W.

Remember. According to the DHS, we're 'Right Wing Extremists' for the very fact that we run blogs.

  6. @Sekanblogger - I like the way you think.

@Mike W. - So the minutemen aren't racist nut jobs? What would you call them then?

  7. I never understood the problem so many people have with illegal immigrants.

  9. MikeB,

Notice that you didn't approve my comment....wonder why that is?

Why can't you have a discussion about a valid analogy on your blog?

You accuse us of being complicit in activities....shouldn't you address your complicity in other activities?

Why not discuss how some activities are illegal and that they are morally wrong?

See, your double standards aren't out of "manners" to my mind, but to protect you from having to examine the illogic, the invalidity of your position.

  10. "You accuse us of being complicit in activities....shouldn't you address your complicity in other activities?"

He doesn't like it when the attacks are aimed at him. He'll attack us gun owners, but can't STAND to have his own logic used against him.

  11. Using the entire internet as your resource, please provide a single link to an article, even an opinion piece will do, that states that "increased crime in general and home invasions in particular, all blamed on the Mexican drug cartels"

If you are unable or unwilling to do this, ask yourself why.

"What's your opinion? Do the Minutemen organizations sound like hate groups to you?"

Here's a link from a pro-gun blogger you have praised highly on other blogs...

    http://www.saysuncle.com/archives/2005/03/02/guess_theyre_down_to_999999_mommies_now/

There are numerous other links as well.

So tell me, are the Million Mom March and their parent org, the Brady Campaign, a criminal organization hiding illegal guns?

Now tell me why this analogy is wrong.

Again, if you are unable or unwilling to do this, ask yourself why?

  12. kaveman, a couple months ago there were many references to the fact that the Mexican Drug Wars were responsible for increased violence in America, especially Phoenix. Here's one place where I talked about Tom Diaz's address to the House.

But, around that time it was all over the news.

The Uncle link made me laugh, it certainly is ironic. And I got your point. Here's my idea on it. In any group of a million people, or 50 million in the case of gun owners, you're gonna have a certain percentage of bad characters. Given the nature of the MMM people, anti-gun, anti-violence, etc., I'd say the percentage of those who secretly break gun laws is pretty small. But, given the nature of gun enthusiasts, some are quite violent, some are irresponsible, some are already criminals who haven't been caught, I'd say the percentage is a bit higher. Today I posted the ballpark figure of 10%.

    ReplyDelete
  13. "Today I posted the ballpark figure of 10%."

    So show your evidence.

Is that to much to ask?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mike will NEVER show evidence of his claims. He will throw around bullshit statistics he makes up out of the blue and nothing more.

He has nothing concrete to base any of his assertions on, which is kinda sad.

  15. "You see, you must put yourself in the immigrants place for a minute.
You can't find work and your precious babies are starving. You have two choices."

Nope, you have a 3rd choice. Follow the laws of the country you wish to enter. You want to come here, then do it legally. My grandparents and great grandparents did it the right way, so should these bums.

  16. "There are an estimated 579,000 illegal immigrants in the state, making up 9 percent of Arizona’s population, according to the Center for Immigration Studies. Illegals accounted for 10 percent of sex crimes, 11 percent of murders and 13 percent of stolen cars, according to Thomas’ office, which looked at 2007 sentencing and jail statistics."

So here we have documented evidence of illegals committing a disproportionate number of crimes in comparison to their numbers.

Can you provide the same about legal firearm owners MikeB?

  17. Mike W., Here's another example.

""You accuse us of being complicit in activities....shouldn't you address your complicity in other activities?"

He doesn't like it when the attacks are aimed at him. He'll attack us gun owners, but can't STAND to have his own logic used against him."

Stop wasting all our time with comments like this, please. Unless you want to do what Weer'd did. He posted comments that he knew would get rejected so often that eventually he stopped coming here. But he took with him the great victory of being able to bad-mouth me at every opportunity on other blogs as one who "censors comments." Is that a victory?

In your case, just like in Weer'd's, I really appreciate the comments that add to the discussion, but also just like Weer'd, with you the pain is beginning to exceed the pleasure.

  18. Interesting that the folks from IggyDonnelley stopped in here, made a few ignorant generalizations, and then left, unable to have a discussion and back up what they say.

Such tolerance and open debate from the "progressives."
