Operation Exodus

Talking Points Memo published a fascinating story about what's going on in Louisiana. (via The Gun Guys)

What's your opinion? Is this sorta like a bunch of older white guys preparing to keep them darkies in line next time there's trouble? And what about the "defensive" nature of Operation Exodus? I suppose at some point they could decide pro-active action or, what did they call it in the Iraq War, pre-emptive action would be required.

Is the idea that if more and more of the "good guys" are prepared, we'll all be safer? Is that the direction we're headed in?

Please leave a comment.

You've sunk to a new low Mikeb.

Perhaps my time here has been a waste. Others tried to warn me but I thought I'd give you a chance.

    What a fool I am.

    Goodbye.

  2. The saddest part is that it is a bunch of older white guys. There should be a lot more younger guys there as well as a lot more people of color.

Then perhaps the next time there is a disaster, people will be prepared and the aftermath won't be nearly as embarrassing as post-Katrina New Orleans.

  3. Congrats, Mike B. You got Kavey to pull the old gunloon equivent of clutching his pearls and retiring to the fainting couch.

When you state the obvious and irrefutable, the gunloon will shake his head sadly, tell you that he's only tried to engage in Reasoned Discourse ™, and will scurry back beneath his rock.

I'm pretty familair with Bossier Parish and friends there tell me that this is just a group of white geezers who feel threatened by the rsing influx of blacks and the guy in the WH.

Nope. Gun control advocates have done plenty of that.

  5. AztecRed, I don't know what you mean by "a lot more people of color." I didn't see any, which is what led to my reading into the story like I like to do.

  6. If you read the comments here, you'll see that Sheriff Deen's little band of enforcers is not universally admired among the hard core gun rights advocacy crowd.

Whether or not racial prejudice plays a part in their little club is a question I'm in no position to answer (although I know you don't consider lack of specific knowledge to be an obstacle, Mikeb).

I do know that Deen's haste to distance himself from militias, as if there's something less than noble and honorable about America's rich militia history, wins him no points in my book.

  7. I thought some of the commenters would take me to task about the fact that no guns were shown in the video.
I was reading that part into it.

The biggest reaction was from kaveman over my daring to bring up the racism question.

    Facinating.
