Defiant in court, a man who murdered one of the few U.S. doctors who performed late-term abortions used his sentencing hearing to do what the judge wouldn't let him do during his trial — justify his crime by describing abortion in gritty detail. This is a particular kind of defiance, though. JadeGold compared arguing with the gun rights folks to arguing with the anti-abortion people. Wouldn't there be an inconsistency in fighting for more freedom concerning gun rights and less government interference yet opposing these lawfully sanctioned procedures for women? I'm presuming most gun rights people oppose abortion rights for women. That could be wrong. What do you think?Scott Roeder was sentenced Thursday to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 50 years, the harshest sentence possible under Kansas law for gunning down Dr. George Tiller in the foyer of the Wichita physician's church last May.
"I stopped him so he could not dismember another innocent baby," Roeder said. "Wichita is a far safer place for unborn babies without George Tiller."
"I did kill him. It was not a murder," Roeder said. "If you were to obey the higher power of God himself, you would acquit me."
As he was being led away in handcuffs after the sentencing, Roeder shouted, "Blood of babies on your hands."
If anyone needs an example of self-righteous justification, this is it. He also exemplifies the admirable quality of never backing down, of speaking truth to power and of course, pure self-sacrifice. This is a guy conservatives everywhere can be proud to call there own.

ReplyDeleteI think you're wrong.
"I'm presuming most gun rights people oppose abortion rights for women. That could be wrong. What do you think?"
ReplyDeleteWhy would you?
I guess I could presume all mountain climbers like Sushi. That wouldn't be too far off from some of Jade's nonsense.

ReplyDeleteYou should recall that I have already stated my pro-gunowner and pro-choice views.
"He also exemplifies the admirable quality of never backing down"
I find the guy to be despicable, but he did admit to doing it.
The also-despicable Tim McVeigh and and the 1st WTC bomber allowed their lawyers to mount a "did not do it" defense.
FWM asked, "Why would you?"
ReplyDeleteIt's because I feel there are major categories of political thought or ways of describing people that overlap fairly well.
1. conservative
2. anti-abortion
3. pro-capital punishment
4. pro-gun rights
I'm not trying to generalize and I'm certainly not trying to say this applies to every single person, but more or less these 4 things go together, don't you think? In other words, start with the 4th one. Don't most of them have the other three also.
As a passionate gun-rights supporter I am pro-rights in general. I am not going to stand on my soap box for my right to bear arms while claiming others shouldn’t have rights that are not important to me. I will never get an abortion, I am not gay, and I have never used drugs, yet I consistently stand on the side of rights. I think you’ll find that a good portion of your 200 million non-gun owners also support the RKBA, and the goal is to bring more and more of them to the side of rights.
ReplyDeleteTS, That's an interesting assertion that a good portion of the non gun owners support the RKBA. I don't think I agree though.
ReplyDelete"I'm presuming most gun rights people oppose abortion rights for women.
ReplyDeleteAnd what objective criteria do you base that presumption on? (I'm laughing here...)
I guarantee you the majority of folks on my blogroll are pro-choice.
But Mike W. what percentages are we talking about here. Your blogroll people are mainly pro-choice, but what about that old stereotype of the red neck gun owner? Usually these stereotypes are based in reality, no?
ReplyDeleteMikeb30299:
ReplyDeleteNot only are the majority of mikey's gunnutz pals pro-choice, they are also as supportive of GAY rights as they are of gun rights, just like mikey!
