I went to an Australia tourism program one night about 20 years ago and the people who put it on were serving some "delicacies" (most of which were european dishes adapted to Australian realities of the 1800's). They were totally bummed out that they had no witchety grubs on offer. I would've tried them.
My experience is that most people will not eat bad tasting food (items such as lutefisk, I admit, skew the graph) and it has allowed me to overcome some of the food prejudices of my upbringing.
