The Left and Right Agree - Even Pat Robertson

But, is it true that Liberals are responsible for the laws which lock up non-violent offenders?

Other than that, I like everything they say in this video, especially, "prisons are for people we're afraid of not for people we're mad at."

  1. Pat Robertson, absent television, would be a small time grifter or working some carney sideshow. He is, like all of his ilk, exactly what he warns his sheeple to avoid. If there was a devil and hell, Patty would be one of his favorite demons.

Yeah, the liberals are to blame for the war on drugz, sure they are.

When, oh when, will Pat's Skydaddy call him home?

  2. Is it the Liberal's fault? Yes. Only because there are no true conservatives anymore.
Who was to blame for Prohibition? Liberals. After Prohibition ended they went after drugs. They needed to keep the G-men working.
Vices are not crimes, and as Mencken said, the liberals are afraid someone, somewhere, might be having fun.
I hate to scare you, but, this position on not locking up people who haven't hurt anyone and letting people ingest whatever they want is a libertarian principle.

    1. Orlin, that doesn't really add up. Liberals are not the ones who don't like to see people having fun. That sounds like that faction of the Right which is often in the news, the religious conservatives.

Aren't the Republinans for the war on drugs? Arent't they the ones who often want pot smokers in jail?

  3. Mencken made his famous comment about Puritans, not liberals, but the point here is that there are too many in our society who feel the need to control everything that we do.

Robertson is correct in the idea that restitution makes much more sense for non-violent crime. Putting people in prison for something that should be no crime at all is wrong.

    1. Greg, there were no 'puritans' in Menckens time; he used the term to describe 'progressives', 'uplifters' socialist christians, etc., of his day.

"The objection to Puritans is not that
they try to make us think as they do,
but that they try to make us do as they think." H.L. Mencken

    2. He also meant the people of Dayton, Tennessee who put Scopes on trial. Of course, he misunderstood a lot of what was going on there, since the locals were just trying to get their town in the news.

  5. And let's not forget who makes money of these drug laws and who doesn't want laws changed (Big Pharma) because they would lose money.
