Real Guns Inside Toy Guns

Delmarva Now reports on the latest craze in criminal carry.   Concealing a real gun inside a toy guy is pretty ingenious.  Of course now that the cops are catching on to it, there'll certainly be more incidents.

"If you see a kid in a bathing suit who's running down the street carrying one of those he's likely not converted it," Shipley said. "If you see a guy while responding to a bank for an alarm, it's important to know he may have converted it from a water gun."

Shipley said situations like this are "just another example of why it's tough to be a police officer."
What's your opinion? When I said "ban them sumbitches," I was referring to the realistic looking guns that can easily be mistaken for the real thing. What do we do about these?

  1. I agree that realistic BB and Pellet guns should be banned. Not sure what to do about this, though. It requires the criminals to be at least a tad bit savvy and creative, which isn't likely to happen often. But why would a criminal do it? Guns are more often used to intimidate, which this would be useless for. And if a criminal intends to do in with guns blazing, they don't need this. If I saw some hood carrying a toy gun, I'd still be damned suspicious just from the weirdness of it.

    1. I agree with Baldr 100%. We need to get rid of both the realistic BB guns, and the ones that shoot those fake BB's. And don't get me started on those intimidating rubber band guns. Let's just "ban them sumbitches" and get it done with.

Please elaborate on this if you would. What does "some hood" look like to you?

    1. It couldn't be a minority in a hoodie--no, he's already told us that we'd be using racial profiling in that case. Excellent point, Anonymous. Oregonian feels free to be bigoted, so long as a gun is involved.

  3. This illustrates how criminals will go to almost any length to be armed. If the criminal had put an orange band around the end of the barrel, law enforcement probably would have overlooked him.

My solution is a citizenry where about 1 out of 4 adults are armed. A criminal who might face a single armed citizen will take his chances. That is the current situation where something like 1 out of 20 adults have concealed carry licenses and assaults and armed robberies happen all the time. On the other hand a criminal who almost certainly faces an armed citizen and quite often multiple armed citizens will rarely attack someone. That is the current situation at gun ranges and police stations where violent crime is nil.

My solution negates any advantage of a real "toy" gun.

  4. Why don't the two of you, Oregonian and Mikeb, give us the list of things that you don't want to ban, restrict, or regulate. That list would fit easily on a 3" x 5" card.

    1. Well, one thing I don't ban is your inane comments. But, I'm not your typical blogger, I have lots of patience.

    2. If you were to ban inane comments, would this blog even exist?

    3. And what was inane about my comment? All we hear from you is your list of restrictions, regulations, registrations, and bans. Except for suppressors, but you're not out advocating to make those easy to get.

There's a fundamental difference between your side and our side. We view owning and carrying firearms as a right that can be denied only after due process and only after great wrong has been committed. You see both as a privilege to be granted at the discretion of the government. As long as our two sides disagree on this core position, no other agreement means anything. No compromise is possible.

  5. Yes in order to avoid crime its better to ban realistic Guns and BB Guns, as we don’t know which is the real gun and which is the realistic one.
