Irresponsible Florida Gun Owner Learns a Lesson

via The Blaze including video

A Florida man says he will no longer carry a loaded gun in his car after a disturbing incident at his Port St. Lucie home. Someone apparently wanted to teach him a lesson in gun safety.

Mike Maisonnueve told local police that his gun, bullets and a knife were stolen from his unlocked vehicle parked in his driveway. After realizing his car had been broken into, he started making his way back into his house when he noticed a bag next to the front door, with words scribbled on either side.

One message read: “LOADED GUN unlocked car = STUPID!!”

On the other side: “LOTS of children in the area.”

Inside the bag were Maisonneuve’s gun and knife, but missing were the bullets.

”I learned a lesson, a valid lesson” Maisonneuve told WBPF. “I should not carry a loaded firearm in my car.  My mind’s been other places the last week or so. I thought I locked my car. Apparently I didn’t,” he added.

While the person who pulled the stunt may have gotten his or her point across, police are currently looking for the suspect who removed and gun, ammunition and knife from the vehicle. The suspect could face charges of armed burglary.
Isn't it typical of Florida that the criminal in this case is the one who took the gun and returned it? The dangerous and irresponsible gun owner gets a pass.

It's situations like this that ensure Florida's continued possession of The Crown.

  1. Yeah, isn't it a shame that someone who enters the property of another illegally might be charged with a crime? But look on the bright side, Mikeb. You might get a twofer here. The gun's owner isn't going to leave it in his car anymore, and the merry prankster could become a prohibited person.

    1. I doubt that the arrogant asshole learned the lesson he said he did. Many gun owners think they can do whatever they want.

    2. How about the arrogance of people who don't respect the property boundaries of others? Within the limits of my own homestead, I should be able to do as I please. Unfortunately, these days, we do have to lock our doors, since childres aren't taught to behave and criminals feel no fear.

  2. So a person so concerned about a gun in a closed vehicle decides to leave it in a paper bag on someones porch?

  3. Same question I was thinking. Just leave it on the pourch where a KID! can just open the paper bag. And if somebody would have got hurt then somehow it would be Mike's M fault. How about preaching against theft Mikeb?

    1. In this story the first wrong was the gun in an unlocked car. And that's not just a little thing you can skip over. That should be sufficient to land the offender in jail and forfeit his gun rights.

After that we can talk about the gun control activist who brought this to our attention.

    2. The owner left his property in his property on his property, yet you want him punished.

    3. Failure to secure a firearm is a criminal offense. Why do you have a problem with that?

    4. Only in some states is that a crime. Not everywhere. Philosophically, I have a problem with laws telling me what I can do with my property on my property. Your attitude is one of surrender--there are criminals in this world, so we must give up rights and property to take away their livelihood. No thanks.
