Upstate New York Gun Shop was Easy Pickin's for Burglars

Local news reports
Authorities say thieves broke into Tom's Guns and Ammo is Sodus overnight Friday.

Store owner Tom Putnam says the burglary was bad enough to potentially put him out of business. Putnam has been selling guns at his Sodus store for 20 years.

"They gained entry, which took them a little time, and probably in and out of here in less than five minutes," said Putnam.

He says thieves broke in through a side window and stole 62 handguns, cleaning out three display cases in his store.
Gun shops with inadequate security on the windows and doors should be held responsible for this kind of thing. Just like individual gun owners, gun shops need to practice safe storage and that means making it a bit more difficult for thieves to take the stuff.

Why is this such as difficult concept for the gun-rights crowd?

  1. Sure, another case of blaming the victim of a crime. You should be able to leave your doors and windows open and not expect a thief. I guess that concept escapes you though. Would you blame the rape victim if her skirt was too short?

    1. No, they're two different crimes. The thieves are guilty of burglary and theft. The shop owner is guilty of improper storage of firearms.

  2. "You should be able to leave your doors and windows open and not expect a thief."

Try using that line when your insurance company drops you for having a claim for robbery of an untended residence or unlocked car with the keys in the ignition.

The guy who owns the gunshop is an idiot. If I was a neighbor of his I would have said something to him a long time ago.

"Would you blame the rape victim if her skirt was too short?".

Actually, that's a lot more like something that the gunzloonz would do. Many of them exhibit, among other undesirable character traits, misogyny and racism.

Your attempt at equivallency here? It's really, Really, REALLY stupid. Last time I checked a vagina wasn't capable of killing people from a distance, nor can it be used, as a general sort of rule, to rob a liquor store. Nice FAIL for you, annoyingmousegunzloon.

  3. Actually, rape is a good analogy here. Among boorish types, it's popular to blame the victim for being raped. Among gun control freaks, it's popular to blame the victim for all manner of crimes as well.

This is a good illustration of a common style of poor thinking.

    1. No Greg, that's a shitty analogy used only for shock value. It is not illegal for a woman to dress in a sexy way or to walk in the park at night. It is illegal for a gun owner to fail to secure his firearms properly, or at least it should be.

    2. You could say the same thing about skirt lengths. Society could decide to regulate how much leg a woman can show. In neither case would the law be justified from the standpoint of rights, but we've seen governments infringe on the rights of people all the time.

    3. How is it a bad analogy when in the end you have to add, "...or at least it should be"?

As I said before, I don’t know of a single place in this country that mandates anti-theft storage for guns. Can you cite one?

  4. So what Greg Camp appears to be saying is it's a good analogy but that a good analogy indicates poor thinking.

Well, you're halfastute on that one, sunshinola.

" Among gun control freaks, it's popular to blame the victim for all manner of crimes as well."

You have, no doubt, citations out the ass (the place where virtually all of your "research" originates) to back up that particularly stupid assertion. 'sides, I thought allayou gunztotin, rootin'tootin'perp-a'shootin' types couldn't BE victims, no more, (Umm, teh gunz, they makez you invincible, right? RIGHT?).

    1. Democommie, take your meds and calm down. I've never said that a gun makes its owner invincible. A gun in the hands of a good owner improves the odds. That's it.

Now let's clear up your confusion. The good analogy is about victims of crimes, namely rape and theft. In both cases, boorish people blame the victim. The poor thinking is done by your side.

As for citations of your side blaming the victim, read any article that Mikeb posts on stolen guns. Of course, to please you, I'd have to provide a citation about the current color of the sky. I don't have to cite sources for the claim that I made, since my claim is demonstrated here time and again. Regular readers know what I'm talking about.

  5. "Gun shops with inadequate security on the windows and doors should be held responsible for this kind of thing."

Looks like Mike is blaming the victim for this crime committed against them DC. Do you need more examples? Mike almost always blames the gun store for being robbed. Rarely does he mention the actual thieves involved as being part of the problem or assigning any blame to them.

Then DC you go on to make a false assumption on the beliefs of gun owners that they say they cannot be victims. Care to show some actual quotes from a gun owner claiming they could never be a victim?

    1. I don't blame them for being robbed. I blame them for improper storage of their merchandise.

  6. "Democommie, take your meds and calm down."

Which ones, Greggie, the baby aspirin, the statin, the meloxicam? Or do you mean the supplements? Lots of those.

Is there a med for guyz like you who are congenital and pathological LIARS? Oh, prolly not, you could try turning off Rushbo and the rest of your sources of information on how to live, that might help.

"Now let's clear up your confusion. The good analogy is about victims of crimes, namely rape and theft. In both cases, boorish people blame the victim. The poor thinking is done by your side."

I'm not confused, you fucking moron. Woman is raped, it's the rapists fault. Someone is robbed, it's the robber's fault. Someone is robbed because they have highly desirable, easily sold goods, no proper security/alarm systems and KNOW that the business they are in is targeted on a frequent and continuing basis? Like I said, try leaving your house and auto unlocked/unsecured and suffering a loss without a significant jump in premiums or just getting dropped altogether--when the insurance company determines that you did not take any precautions.

You gunzloonz keep saying that responsible non-gunzloonz "blame the victim" when idiots like the one in mikeb302000's OP have a load of gunz swiped from their pathetically secured storage areas in your pathetic attempt at Rape-Robbery equivalency--most women that are raped aren't advertising, with neon signage and window displays, that they have LOTS of hot sex inside.

So, tell me, Greggie, do you leave your house unlocked, car unlocked--keys in the ignition--your office door at the place where you work open for anyone to come in and have a look around? Do you leave a computer at work, turned on and with your password written on a piece of paper taped to your desk? If not, why not?

    1. I lock my doors. That's part of the security choices that I make. But in this part of the country, the oft-disparaged South, people do leave their doors unlocked--sometimes, in the case of vehicles, with the engine running. That may not be wise, although in this area, bad things don't tend to result from it, but it's the owner's choice to do whatever with the property in question.

On two other points, the only Rush that I listen to is a rock band from Canada, and whenever you're ready to prove that I lie, I'll be here.
