5-Year-old Philadelphia Girl Shoots Herself in the Foot

Local news reports
Police say a 5-year-old girl has shot herself in the foot while playing with a gun.

WCAU-TV reports (bit.ly/YYF8eE) that the girl was at home with her father and two siblings in the city's Kensington section Tuesday night when the gun went off and hit her big toe. Her father rushed her to the hospital. Police say the injuries are minor.

It is unclear how the girl got the gun. Police say the weapon belongs to the girl's father, who works in private security.
Dad should be working on the county jail chow line about now. What do you think?

  1. You'd think someone who works in private security would know a thing or two about gun safety, eh? Wrong. You don't have to be safe or smart to own a gun.

The girl's 2 and 3-year old siblings were also present. This owner's stupidity could easily have cost him the life of at least one child. He should have his children removed AND his gun rights.

I think he should have a trial first. But then again, I am one of those 6th Amendment nuts who thinks everyone should have unfettered access to a trail by jury if accused of a crime.

    1. While I agree that he deserves a trial, assuming all the information in this article is unbiased and there is nothing left out, I dare say he deserves to at least lose his rights to a firearm for negligence.

There is no reason for the firearm to be within access of a five-year-old, there is no reason for it to be loaded- (assuming, of course, that he wasn't on the way to his job that required a loaded firearm- but I'm not aware of any, and the firearm should have never left the holster after being loaded), and his children should have all been warned about the dangers of a gun.

This could have been a lot worse. They really dodged a bullet here.

No pun intended. Really, none at all.

    2. People who are held responsible for serious crimes are in jail awaiting either a bail hearing or a trial. That's where this irresponsible idiot should be. I suppose you want to defend him, somehow it's personal to you, isn't it?

    3. But Mikeb, we don't do that for accidents. Until you can understand that, you'll remain confused.

  4. What we need to do is enact a law where a gunsuck who allows a kid to shoot a gun suffers the same wound. Shoot this fucker in the foot. Eye for an eye. It's what Jesus wants.

    1. Curious, but gunsuck isn't a word in my dictionaries. What do you mean?

    2. A gunsuck is someone who sucks guns, like you, Greg.

    3. Not something that I do. But given your willingness to project your personal problems onto others, I can see why you don't want anyone to own a gun.
