Jacob Tyler Roberts - Clackamas Mall Shooter

The Chicago Tribune reports with video

A masked gunman who opened fire in a crowded Oregon mall in the middle of the holiday shopping season, killing two people and wounding a third before taking his own life, appears to have acted alone in a random rampage, police said on Wednesday.

Investigators identified the man behind Tuesday's shooting as Jacob Tyler Roberts, 22, who they said had no significant criminal history and acted without any obvious warning, though his Facebook page indicated an affinity for guns and alcohol.

  1. Not only did he have no criminal record, he also didn't own the gun. The only way to prevent him from having done this is to eliminate all privately held guns--something that you keep saying you don't want to do.

According to reports that I've seen, the mall where he did this is a gun-free zone. A better option would be to allow good citizens to defend themselves. But you've declared yourself to be against that.

  2. If you are so concerned about safety MikeB, why did you prominently display the name and photo of this spree killer? All you are doing is enabling the next spree killer who wants to be famous.

I have no qualms whatsoever about reviewing the incident and debating what, if anything, we should change about private or public policy. Anyone who makes the killer a celebrity, however, makes them an accomplice to the next spree killer.

    1. You want to silence me, is that it? Or you're embarrassed that another law-abiding citizen went off the deep end?

    2. He wasn't law-abiding. He stole a gun and committed murder. Embarrass yourself all you want, but your attempts to smear all gun owners with the actions of a few only makes you look foolish.
