Oregon Mall Shooting Rampage

ABC News reports with video
A masked gunman opened fire today at Clackamas Town Center, a mall in suburban Portland, Ore., killing two people, injuring one, and then killing himself. "I can confirm the shooter is dead of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound," Lt. James Rhodes of the Clackamas County, Ore., Sheriff's Department said today. "By all accounts there were no rounds fired by law enforcement today in the mall."
Just the other day one of the gun-nut commenters took exception to my calling Oregon a state with a gun culture. That's when we were talking about the 7 and 11-year-old gunslingers. I'm sure he and the others will have no difficulty explaining this incident away too.

My theory is the guy was influenced by and trying to imitate Ted Nugent, camo gear, automatic weapons, pissed off.

What do you think?  Please leave a comment.

  1. Come on, Mike. You know better than to say “automatic weapons”.

    1. You're right I do. I was typing too fast and trying to be too sarcastic.

    2. Thanks. The sarcasm is not going to come across too well considering how many times with see those words inappropriately applied in all seriousness.

  2. Yet another very public mass shooting by another loony with a semi-auto assault rifle and body armor. Pitiful how these guns are allowed to be sold despite all the instances where they have slaughtered innocents.

    1. Why do you advertise your blog here when you don't allow comments?

But, of course, you see allowing 100,000,000 Americans to exercise their rights as pitiful, even though less than one percent of us do wrong with those guns.

    2. It is a mistake to make the distinction between "assault rifles" and other firearms. Such would imply that non-assault weapons are less dangerous in the hands of civilians than "assault weapons", and the individual ownership of such firearms (by the common person) would be implicitly socially acceptable.

    3. Gun ownership is socially acceptable in this country, and the term, assault rifle, is used incorrectly by gun control freaks. But considering all the things that they get wrong, what's one more?

  3. And, yes, Oregon (my state) very much is a state with a "gun culture", and a gun culture which has run amok.

    1. Well tom you got to realize that alot of the law abiding gun carriers couldn't carry in these places cause guns were not allowed thus makes for easy victims

    2. "so much for the nra B.S. of more guns make us safer!"

How do you KNOW FOR A FACT that more guns makes us less or more safe?

More importantly, why is your notion of safety about a particular object a valid reason to infringe upon my rights to own and possess such objects?

If certain people deem refrigerators to be dangerous, can they infringe on your right to own a refrigerator? After all refrigerators leak refrigerant which harms the ozone layer which leads to increased rates of skin cancer, they have started house fires, and they have suffocated children who get trapped inside.

    3. Yeah, and certain people deem the ebola virus dangerous. You don't want that easily available to any nut who wants some, do you?

      Delete
    4. Do you know of any legitimate uses that a private citizen would have for the ebola virus? Can the ebola virus be used in ways that do not pose an extraordinary danger to large numbers of people?

Substitute gun for ebola virus in those questions, and the answer to both is yes.

    1. Good, we agree on the gun culture part. Do we agree this happened in Oregon?

    2. This event happened in Oregon, but that tells us nothing. Remember that map of mass shootings that we discussed a while ago? The one that showed the highest concentration in California?

  7. My theory is that the guy was a violent criminal who was determined to harm people and carried out his plan.

The fact that he chose to use a firearm actually minimized the number of fatalities. He would have killed countless more people with a match and a gasoline container.

    1. Bullshit. I hope you have a front row seat at the next massacre. You will be there to stop it, no doubt.

  8. Well another example of a "gun free" zone actually being a defenseless target rich zone. I would sue the mall, the security firm they use, and all of the stores in the mall for reckless endangerment.

    1. I sure as hell hope that you and your parents/kids are at the next massacre. You love guns, let them love you back.

  9. I pray that all gunsucks here have a front row seat at the next gun massacre. This massacre could have been greatly reduced by the elimination and criminalization of possession of high capacity quick change magazines. These are totally irrelevant to RKBA.

  10. In the bible, Jesus says "Those who live by the sword will perish by the sword." I can only add "and let's speed up that time-table, please."

  11. Here we have Anonymous expressing a desire to see us and our loved ones killed. I can't recall ever saying that I want to see gun control freaks shot or killed in any other manner, either.

  12. Hey, it was only a SEMI-AUTOMATIC WEAPON NOT A FULLY AUTOMATIC MAIN BATTLE OR ASSAULT RIFLE YOU GUNZHATIN'HATERZ!

And everbuddy knows you can't never ever fire them fastlike, 'cuz they are only SEMI-AUTOMATIC. Besides they're really puny calibers (don't take my word for, ballistics expert Greggie Camp will back me up on this) and don't have the stopping power of a .308, a .357 or .45 (again, master armorer, Greggie is the "go to" guy on this stuff. He knows more about gunz than anybody I ever knowed).

    I'm sure that this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dZx_TBqklI

    and this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOW_dcOrd9Y (something like 38,000 views on this one)

are totally, like, fabricated by Sorosbradycorn operatives, just to make gunzloonz look like, well, loonz.

"The fact that he chose to use a firearm actually minimized the number of fatalities. He would have killed countless more people with a match and a gasoline container"

And that is why we have had scores of mass burnings committed using gasoline and matches. Oh, wait, what's that? We haven't had any that we're aware of and the commentor is being a fucking idiiot? I guess he'll have to go find another false equivalency.

Anonymous @ 8:51, 8:52, 8:53 and 8:54 seems to be a bloodthirsty sortaguy. The problem with anonymous sockpuppets is that you really never know who they are--that could just as easily some anti-gunz guy or Weer'dybeardy playing agent provocateur.

If "Anonymous @ 8:51, 8:52, 8:53 and 8:54" IS genuinely anti-gun than he has some anger management issues to work on. Maybe he can get a name from Greggie, of some good mental health counselor. Oh, fuck, my bad, Greggie HATEZ those people; I'm sorry that I brought it up.

    2. Actaully a 5.56 is deadly but its main purpose is to wound compared to a 7.62 or a 308 so yes gregg is partially right

    3. So what, Democommie? There are videos of people firing semi-autos almost as fast as full autos. Are you suggesting we just drop the special regulations on full auto? Let’s just lump them all together and say “ban them all” or “ban none”. Are you ok with that? What do you want anyway? You keep saying you are not trying to take away the guns, so I can only conclude that your point is to repeal the Hughes amendment.

Now what about all the videos of people dumping magazines with a pump or lever action almost as fast as semi-autos? We can’t be splitting hairs over a few seconds, so what do we do about pump and lever actions?

And what is with the gun control side’s obsession with speed firing anyway? If someone is going to mag dump their semi-auto AK-47 on me I would prefer them to bump fire rather than taking the time to aim. Look at this Oregon case: 60 shots and only murdered two people?

    4. Actually, Democommie is misquoting me. I tried to explain to him the differences between battle rifle cartridges, such as .30-'06 or 7.92 Mauser, and intermediate cartridges used in the AR-15 and the AK-47, but he's incapable of subtlety or nuance.

  13. Greggie, honey:

I think you're tellin' a little fib again. I was fully aware of the differences between AK-47 rounsd and those used in AR-15's, various handguns and a number of hunting rifles, lemmesee, about 30 FUCKING YEARS AGO.

Why don't you go dig up that OP of mikeb302000's on the M16 and regale us all with your bullshit, yet again.
