The gun rights fanatics will go to any length to distance themselves from their own who go bad.
The funniest attempt is on TTAG today. The theory goes that in order to punish his gun-nut mother, young Adam did what he did in order to bring about strict gun control.
In other words, Adam Lanza is one of us.
Is that a riot, or what?
Don't know if it's true or not, and it isn't likely I ever will. But, since Dorner was one of you (as his manifesto clearly states), it wouldn't surprise me.
ReplyDeleteJim, I'm afraid what distinguishes "one of you" from "one of us," is not one's political beliefs. It's whether or not they own guns and shoot people with them. It's a simple distinction.
DeleteAnd yet, I own guns and have never shot anyone. Which category do you place me into? The distinction is not as simple as you make it out to be. It is better (and more accurate, IMHO) to make the political distinction.
DeleteOn this blog, dedicated almost exclusively to the gun control debate, I'm afraid the us and them is determined by gun ownership.
DeleteBut he was not a gun owner. He stole those weapons from his first victim. I guess that means that, by your own definition, he is one of you.
DeleteSorry, Jim, you can't get rid of him that easily. A young man who lives in a home with weapons that he has access to is definitely ONE OF YOU.
DeleteOne of what? Was he a gun-rights advocate? He committed a heinous act. The vast majority of gun owners do not do that. He belongs to a tiny group, and your efforts to smear all of us are pathetic.
DeleteThe shooter was not playing with a full deck, so...
ReplyDeleteIn seriousness, he was a wacko. This means that he was not a part of any rational discussion on any side. Trying to make policy decisions on the basis of what some nutcase had to say is silly.
By the way, following David Brin's suggestion, I'm obeying the mandate of the Ephesians regarding the arsonist who destroyed the Temple of Artemis. The person's name is never to be said. He is to be forgotten. He can be referred to as the Newtown shooter if needed. Otherwise, we're just giving these attention seekers exactly what they want.
Adam Lanza actually hated guns which is why he played video games which are the obvious problem here.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a pretty rich conspiracy theory, based on absolutely no facts whatsoever other than this one pro-gun extremist's biased conjecture! This fool is so unwilling to admit the obvious that he will blame anything other than easy access of guns to someone who is dangerously mentally ill.
ReplyDeleteLaPierre blames violent computer games and movies, and Rick Perry blames it on lack of prayer in school, so why not find a different scapegoat (especially those who might oppose their own view on guns and actually want to keep guns out of the hands of those who would commit such crimes)?
I blame your response on your inability to put things into perspective.
