Public Enthusiasm Waning for Proper Gun Control Laws

In the months following the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., polls showed greater support for stricter gun control laws.

A new CBS News poll released today, however, finds that growth has deflated back to pre-Newtown levels. CBS reports:
"Currently, support for stricter gun control laws stands at 47 percent today, down from a high of 57 percent just after the shootings. Thirty-nine percent want those laws kept as they are, and another 11 percent want them made less strict.
"Partisans hold different views on gun control laws: 52 percent of Republicans want the laws kept as they are, while 66 percent of Democrats want stricter laws (down from 78 percent in February). Half of gun owners themselves want gun laws overall kept as they are, but a quarter call for stricter laws."
Never fear, there's one thing that won't go down, or at least not significantly.  That's the numbers of killed and wounded by gun violence.  Also, the frequence of mass shootings.  Public opinion, by a largely biased or apathetic public will not affect those things.

Sooner or later, proper gun control laws will prevail despite the best efforts of the self-serving and cold-hearted gun-rights fanatics.

  1. Told you.

By the way, rates of accident and violence have gone down over the last two decades, while rates of ownership and carry of guns have gone up.

  2. Violence IS going down, and has been.

Too bad for your gun control hopes. Frankly, if you can't pull of a win at this time, I doubt you'll manage it in the future. Poor baby!

    1. I don't know about that. It could be that your bought politicians tow the line this time but pay for it in the polls. That would make for a better gun-control balance two and four years from now.

Your glory days are numbered. Poor baby!

    2. That's toe the line, as in everyone lining up in a straight row.

You'd do yourself a favor by not believing your own propaganda. But please, don't change. We want you to lose.

  3. MikeB,

All people have a natural right to defend themselves from attack. Our immune systems constantly fight germs regardless of external factors such as whether we are at home or at school, who is in government office, or how the public feels about us. Even when sleeping, our brain is able to process sounds, detect danger, and wake us to deal with it regardless of external factors. And any animal will defend itself with all means available in all situations regardless of external factors such as location, or how other animals view the attack.

Take a cue from nature and our bodies. It is our natural right to defend ourselves, regardless of external factors, period.

I have never acted to limit what property you can have, where you can go, what you can do, or how you can defend yourself. Unfortunately you have done all of those in your concerted attack on me -- a citizen.

  4. You're right, MikeB302000, now hold hands with me and let's sing "Kumbayah" while we wait for another school shooter to kill so that we can push our agenda through congress and show those racist, stereotypical, redneck pieces of white trash how foolish they are for believing that a piece of metal can't hurt anyone!
