Until the recent Heller Supreme Court decision, residents weren’t even allowed to own guns. No magazines are allowed that hold more than 10 rounds, there is no law permitting concealed carry, and there is no Castle Doctrine law.

After taking the top spot in “The Best States for Gun Owners,” Arizona tops the leaderboard once again. As a “Constitutional Carry” state, anyone 21 and over who can legally own a firearm can carry it concealed without a license. In addition, Arizona issues licenses on a Shall-Issue basis, allowing residents and non-residents to carry their weapons when traveling out-of-state. Arizona also has no duty to immediately inform an officer, has excellent reciprocity and a Stand Your Ground law.
Sounds like a very nice place to visit....
ReplyDeleteSo where are the piles of dead bodies in Arizona? With it being the most firearms friendly state in the U.S., their violent crime rate should be highest in the nation, right? After all, anyone over the age of 21 can purchase any firearm they want and carry concealed without any government oversight.
ReplyDelete-- TruthBeTold
I wonder what the respective crime rates are for Washington D.C. and Arizona?
DeleteNow here's a scorecard that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteFrom FBI's 2012 stats,

Arizona 428.9 5.5
California 423.1 5.0
DC 1243.7 13.9

With all the guns and loose gun laws, AZ should be faring a bit better than that, don't you think? That's what you keep telling us anyway.
DeleteI've said many times that rates of violence are independent of the number of guns in a community. You, Mikeb, claim otherwise, but D.C. falsifies your claim.
DeleteYou know better than that, Greg, but no one around here expects the truth from you.
DeleteGun availability is a factor in the equations that result in violence. There are other factors, but to pretend that guns have nothing to do with it is typically mendacious of you.
I saved this quote from Mike: "I predict over the next five years, Arizona will give us incontrovertible proof that gun control is needed."
ReplyDeleteThat was about three years ago when Arizona passed constitutional carry. Tick-tick-tick, Mike. Time is running out on that proof.
AZ has proven to be a total failure in the bizarre idea that more guns makes for a safer state.

In states with lots of gun restrictions, the same amount of illegal gun buyers will be there as any other gun friendly state. So in places like Arizona, law abiding citizens can defend themselves and criminals might not want to hurt anyone for fear of someone with a concealed gun. But in states with many gun restrictions criminals have nothing to fear so naturally there will be more crime there. Gun control has a backwards effect.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that would be great (for your side) if it were true.
