Using 2010 data on firearm deaths provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Slate estimates that the number of gun deaths since the Newtown tragedy is likely closer to 28,600. As Salon's Sally Kohn points out, that works out to about 90 people a day.
Funny, with data like that, the argument that guns keep us "free" doesn't make any sense. I think those victims and their families don't feel "free" at all.
ReplyDeleteThat's why the gun-rights movement is doomed to fail. Every year there are hundreds-of-thousands of family members of gun-violence victims. The great majority of them move further in the direction of gun control. That inertia is what's gonna crush the gun nuts.
DeleteYou say that, but where are they already? They're not rising up at the moment. But you also ignore the hundreds of thousands to millions who have family members who defend their lives with a gun. They're on my side.
