The straw man argument here is in his claims regarding why American gun owners have guns and in his claim that we're doing nothing about violations of other rights. Lots of people have guns for many different reasons. Some are collectors. Some are hunters. Some care about personal protection. And yes, some are concerned about government power. And a great many of us, like a great many Americans, are angry about government overreach and violations of many rights. But the fool in the video just wants to reduce everything to what he finds easy to mock.
No, I don't have to admit that. In the extreme case, Americans with guns might be the last line of defense against tyranny. I consider that to be an outside possibility, and it's certainly not one I desire, but it remains something that could happen.
So, Greggy, you're a straw man? it figures you didn't see yourself in that, but you probably didn't understand it (APU). Too bad since what he was talking about since it was pretty much aimed at the things you believe.
The essence of the gun control argument: straw men, ad hominem attacks, and elitism. But to those of you who believe in gun control because you're afraid, consider whether you really trust people like this to keep you safe.
Two points:
ReplyDelete1. He's ranting at straw men, as has been demonstrated here many times.
2. This idiot is no relation to me.
What straw man? Isn't it true what he says about so many rights having been diluted while you nuts clutch your guns?

DeleteWell, you have to admit, you guys who clutch your guns for the tyranny motive and especially foolish.

DeleteDon't embarrass yourself like that. Listen to the video again, but this time with an open mind.

ReplyDeleteGreg, this wasn't a gun control argument. This was a simple mockery of you gun nuts.
DeleteThat comment was aimed at Laci. He's not worth speaking to directly.
DeleteGreg is more like Ted Nugent than the Straw man from the Wizard of Oz. The Straw man was much more realistic and rational.
ReplyDeleteFirst a straw man, now an ad hominem. Can your side make an argument without logical fallacies?
DeleteHoly crap! It's Alex Jones with a beard and hair!
