Did you follow the link that Mike provided and look at the map? Surely Mike would have posted the map if the USA were a nice dark color, but instead we have to follow the link to see it.
Actually, I didn't even notice the map. I only consulted the lists. But, it's interesting that you accuse me of being tricky and purposely not including the map as if it works against my point. The truth is any comparison of US violence that includes third-world shit-hole countries is misleading. But that's what your side is all about, isn't it? In a straight up and honest comparison, like between first-world countries you lose every time.
So can I just throw away data that I don't like too? You'll happily compare Louisiana to Massachusetts even though they don't share the same socio-economics.
Post the map, Mike. It provides perspective. It shows what really drives murder rate, and those same factors exist in pockets in the USA.
Mikeb, compare Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. Or compare Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Can we agree that those areas have a lot in common?

The odd thing is you're such a stickler for the unfairness of talking about gun violence as opposed to overall violence, yet you have no problem listing countries like the US, the UK and Australia with ALL the other countries. Doing this is as misleading as saying where there are a lot of guns there is a lot of gun violence.
Yes, I am a stickler for looking at murder instead of “gun deaths”. I’m also a stickler for looking at all data points instead of selectively casting ones you don’t like away. That’s exactly what I am saying here.
Which being inclusive instead of selective does. How am I the one who's biased when I am saying we should look at all the data on all murder regardless of the weapon?

If you weren't biased, you'd be able to admit that my brief post above is damning to your position. Comparing the US to perhaps the two most similar countries on the list (I wonder what Canada would come in at?) would suffice - if you weren't biased.

The point of the post is that in order to get a fair picture we must compare the US violence to that of other 1st world developed countries and eliminate such places as Honduras and El Salvador. But that doesn't work for the gun-rights fanatics, does ot?
Is gun availability not a factor in Honduras and El Salvador? Even the poor countries should show that “more guns equals more death” in your hypothesis. There is no need to discard the data.

A writer friend of mine used to live in Alaska. Her take on it is that the only thing to do is get drunk and fight. during the long winters.
