In Washington State, Idiot Lawful Gun Owner Shoots his 12-Year-old Grandson - No Charges It was Just an Accident

A 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the lower leg Wednesday evening on East Jacobs Road north of Spokane Valley.
Spokane County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an accidental shooting around 8:45 p.m.
The boy and his grandfather were roughhousing together in the living room of a home on the 14000 block of East Jacobs Road when a handgun in a concealed holster on the grandfather’s belt went off, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The bullet went through the boy’s right calf.
The injury wasn’t life-threatening, the Sheriff’s Office said, and the boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
He was probably a concealed carry permit holder practicing home carry. As we often say, the chances of shooting a family member are greater than the possibility of shooting a bad guy. Stupid, stupid people.

  1. As you often say, but cannot prove. Remember that the plural of anecdote is not data.

    1. You cannot prove shit, you just spread it on this site.

    2. OK, let's say he was not a concealed carry permit holder. He's still one of your shining examples of extreme stupidity.

    3. Mikeb, given the facts here, he likely was a carry license holder. That's not what I was referring to. I was pointing out the falsehood of your assertion about probabilities.

    4. Greg, even those on your side of the debate admit this is true. They chop Kellerman's higher number down, but they still admit it's more likely. But, as we all know, you don't hold yourself to such a high standard of honesty.

    5. Your side loves Kellermann. I don't know anyone on my side who accepts his studies.

    6. You don't accept any studies, that disagree with your "side."
Maybe if you stopped taking sides (spewing talking point garbage) and thought for yourself, you might see things clearer.

  2. Actually, in this case, there is at least one report that he did have a carry permit. The video in this report mentions that he did,

And it does bring up the question of what really happened. If it was any kind of quality holster, it was covering the trigger, making a discharge unlikely. My guess is it fell out during the wrestling match.

    2. Anon, considering the absence of information in the article, there many here who are guessing and iffing, including Mike. Or in this case, Mike's use of probably. In this case, Mike was correct.

    3. Yeah, I got lucky - in this case.

  3. Here is the real question -- is this kid getting shot more important or less important than this jerk having a gun to cuddle?

    1. You've carried a gun. How about you tell us about how you carried it.

    2. DG, since he was in possession of the gun when this happened, he should be held responsible for wounding his grandson.

    3. There are both civil and criminal remedies for these events. The parents could sue. There are also likely such criminal offences ranging from discharge of a firearm (even the small town I live in has this), all the way up to assault. I've also seen articles you've posted in which people have been charged with child endangerment.

    4. I was hoping for something a bit more specific not an artful dodge using generalizations.

    5. Mike, I don't recall anyone ever referring to me as artful. I don't know what is reasonable or doable in the area of charging cases like these. And as I said before, going by this news article which has so little real information requires people to speculate a lot.
Generalization is all you can really do in this case.

    7. So little information? What more would you like before being able to comment on this guy's incident? You're playing hard to get, man.

  4. One of the Gun Nuts favorite argument points is the so-called decrease in crime which they claim corresponds with increased gun ownership.

I suggest anyone who wants to understand drops in crime watch The Wire and also understand shootings like this and the 2 month old are often not chalked up to criminal acts thus allowing the fudging of numbers that Gun Loons like to do. Also, when confronted with the horrific 34,472 gun deaths they just shrug; because like all cowards Gun Nuts are always willing to sacrifice someone else's life for their beliefs.

    2. Grung is talking about cooking the crime numbers- but he/she forgot the caveat that "you can't hide a body" (often quoted in The Wire). Murder rates tend to be the most accurate and have also fallen precipitously over the last 20 years.

    3. If a person commits suicide, which is the case in two thirds of those gun deaths, that's the responsibility of the person alone. Of the remainder, if we ended the War on Drugs, a great many of those wouldn't happen.

But you apparently missed the memo about the number of accident firearms deaths: about 600 per annum. That number is also on the decline.

Are you saying the 33,000 gun shot deaths in America, two thirds of those are suicides?

      Delete
    5. Yes, it's a fact that two thirds of gun deaths in this country are suicides.

    6. "Are you saying the 33,000 gun shot deaths in America, two thirds of those are suicides? "

According to the CDC, in 2010, there were 19,392 firearm suicides and 11,078 firearm homicides, giving a total of 30,470.
The percentage of suicides comes to a bit under 64%, so yes, two thirds is pretty close.

Good catch Greg, ding on me for getting it wrong.

    8. Oh, yeah, the "juke the stats" thing.

Greg, for crying out loud, stop using the debunked 600 number. And while you're at it, stop talking about ONLY accidental deaths. You negligent idiots are responsible for a lot more damage than just the deaths you cause.

    9. Mikeb, I'm using the CDC numbers. Your beef is with them, not me.
