Arizona Man Unintentionally Shoots Himself While Driving, Crashes Car

Ohh Shoot

A Flagstaff, Arizona man was returning from picking up his handgun at a gun store where it was being repaired.  While driving he noticed that the .45-caliber handgun was cocked.  He picked up the gun to try to uncock the firearm and unintentionally discharged the weapon.

The bullet hit him in the foot.  He decided to try and continue driving to the hospital but blacked out from the blood loss. His car crashed into a tree in front of a local hospice home.

Paramedics had to cut down the tree in order to remove him from the car.  He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.

  1. Of course! It's special treatment to let him stay at the hospital rather than dragging him off and jailing him immediately.

    1. "No charges have been filed." That's the special treatment.

  2. More proof of how dumb gun owners are.

    1. More proof of how irrational gun control freaks are that you think this man is representative of the whole.

    2. Ah--I see. So you are willing to be judged in light of every act of stupidity committed by every person who does not own a gun?

Damn--that's making you look pretty close to unicellular in the old cerebral cortex.

    3. No, not representative of the whole, but guys like this are not as few and far between as you gun nuts pretend.

    4. No, not representative of the whole, but guys like this are not as few and far between as you gun nuts [sic] pretend.

Whatever the exact degree of rarity, the fact remains that he in no way represents those of us who do not stupidly shoot ourselves while motoring, all your attempts to use a pathetic trickle of anecdotes to turn this blog into another version of Ohh Shoot notwithstanding.

    5. The evidence says this man is a part of a tiny minority of gun owners.

    6. This idiot is a member of your side. Along with thousands of others who shoot themselves, or others. This tiny minority keeps Mike busy posting stories everyday multiple stories a day, and I know he does not post all stories that happen. Over 30,000 gun shot deaths a year and many more gun injuries a year. So tens of thousands a year is what you call a small minority? And the stupidity is shown in the details of every story. Gun loon, gun nut, whatever you want to call them, is a well earned description. You side refuses to make any attempt to curb these incidents citing an infringement of rights, so yes, this idiotic, deadly behavior is part of what you accept and defend.

    7. There is no cure for stupidity, other than the stupid person finding enlightenment. Your side insists on keeping people safe from themselves. We argue for holding people responsible for their own actions, but not for the actions of others.

    8. In the tradition of speed limits and other laws that make sure stupidity is punished. Deterrents do curb stupidity. Laws have been essential in curbing drunk driving, and they have worked.

    9. Kurt, you really know how to hurt a guy. My "trickle of anecdotes" has been daily, day in and day out, since long before Ohh Shoot made their debut on the scene.

    10. Greg, you always say there's no cure for stupidity, but what you seem to avoid is the percentage of lawful gun owners who are so stupid that they are unfit. What percentage do you think that is? If I remember correctly, in my 50% tally, I put it at 1%. What would be your estimate?

Perhaps, but I still maintain that the dominance of that theme we now see on this blog is a relatively recent phenomenon.

    12. I don't make wild guesses in the absence of evidence. The percentage of gun owners who do wrong is tiny--perhaps even less than one percent--and that's from all causes. But stupidity is a good catch-all term for them.

    13. "Perhaps even less than 1%." Didn't you used to say one-tenth of one-percent?

  3. Maybe the Arizona DMV should just suspend his driver's license for six months.

    1. And make him pay for the tree, in addition to removing his guns, of course.

  4. But, but... I thought all legal gun owners were safe with their gunzzz...

What a dumbass. Stupid to have a loaded gun in the car to begin with, but not to notice it was cocked when he received it? And then to continue driving while bleeding profusely?
