Eminem - White America - It's About the 1st Amendment

  1. Yes, American culture is ahead of most of the world in terms of liberty of speech. We (not all but many) welcome diverse speech and the give and take that has been America. Most (not all) of the world lacks the underpinnings to even attempt to get the 1A. And Tipper Gore is Mary Mary!

    1. American culture is no longer ahead of most of the world, unless you want to do like the gun nuts do when arguing about murder rates and include all the third-world shitholes on the list.

  2. A new proposal would empower the feds to scour the Internet, TV and more for so-called hate speech.

Democratic Sen. Ed Markey is pushing a bill to have a federal agency monitor anything that it suspects may encourage hate crimes. He wants the agency to work in connection with the Department of Justice and U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, then file a report to Congress on what’s hateful and could lead to hate crimes.

So, who gets to decide what’s hateful and what will they then do about it? Will demeaning terms like "gunloon" be considered hate speech?

When there is success in limiting one right, the success of limiting all rights are just around the corner. Like gun free zones, free speech zones that have already been attempted.

    1. Attempted? Heck, they've been more or less established on many college campuses, and I don't think I've heard of any of them being struck down. (If I'm wrong on this, someone Please tell me about them being struck down--would be a nice to see.)

    2. Anonymous, you're simplistic bullshit that the 2A protects all the others is something that you gun-rights fanatics think sounds cool so you keep repeating it. No other country has a 2A and many of them enjoy more freedom than you do as a proud jingoistic rah rah USA lover.

    3. Mikeb, Anonymous was commenting about the First Amendment. The only reference to gun rights was a brief comparison of ___-free zones.

    4. Well Mike, since I never mentioned the 2A protecting all others, I don't know what your talking about. In fact I believe its the 1A that protects all others. But the point was that once you loose any Civil Right, your going to loose them all. So go rah rah for your socialistic values, I will continue to Hoo Rah the USA.

    5. Wow, Mike! Way to miss the point and go off on the guy for something he didn't say rather than continuing the discussion of the First Amendment.

      Anonymous, Well put; both times.

To me, that sounds like the nonsense that you guys frequently write about the 2A protecting all the others. Anonymous' explanation is so bizarre I don't know how to respond - says he, it's the 1A that protects all the others????

    7. Really Mike? I can not believe what you said! You use the privilege of the 1A to post your blog in the USA. I say privilege because you post from outside the US and US law makers can cut you off from here like other countries do to deny any free speech rights there. And as a side note, other countries may not have a 2A like the US but other countries do have gun laws that either restrict, require or deny their citizens on the ownership or carry of weapons. And yes, we do have more freedoms here than most other, if not all other nations around the globe.

Now with that said, the citizens freedom of speech to influence the law makers,(you know, the law makers the citizens elect to office) that's how freedom of speech protects the other enumerated rights. If only the rulers had the freedom to speak, like in other dictatorial nations, then the laws here might be, WOULD BE, completely different than they are now.

Now I can get into the nuts and bolts of the Bill Of Rights with you on exactly how this is done. I figure that a 10, to 15 thousand word post would be needed to cover the basics. In the process I would piss off you, I would piss off the pro 2A supporters and other groups as well. But facts are facts. You are not entitled to your own facts just as I am not entitled to mine. Neither is Laci or others. But one fact that the pro 2A supporters say the 2A protects the 1A or all others in not on its face true or factual at all. That is not what the founders wrote or intended.

    8. So you're a 1A nut and not a 2A nut? I find it a bit of a stretch to say the freedom of speech protects the other rights. It seems to me the ones with the most money get their way rather than the poor folks exercising their right to free speech.

Although I think those who say the 2A protects all the others are self-aggrandizing idiots with visions of fighting off the tyrannical government, at least I understand what they mean.

    9. ______ nut? What does that even mean? Freedom of speech isn't any stretch at all. The rich do have an influence, sometimes too much. But the poor can exercise their rights, IF they decide to do so instead of just accepting what comes down the pipe. Sadly that seems to be the case most of the time. So your just half right in the first part of your response.

Second half of your response. Those who say the 2A protects all others have a point, somewhat, but miss the larger point altogether. The framers of the Constitution and the Bill Of Rights made it perfectly clear what rights the Government could not touch and why. Unless you abused those rights enumerated or the citizens around you, you are subject to loose those rights and sometimes forever.

Are there those that have that self aggrandizing visions of fighting the government, yes there is and I read about these groups all the time and to me,,,,, its disturbing.

But I don't consider myself as a "nut" of any kind. I am also not a democrat or a republican, a tea party or green party or even a libertarian. I don't have or want any affiliation with any party. However I am a historian and one that finds facts in the writing of the original framers for example and sometimes just shake my head in shame of some of the interpretations, or misinterpretations of the founders writings to suit certain political agendas, personal goals of those in power, and laws written that do not have constitutional muster. This country is loosing its direction set fourth by the framers and has for a long time. The reason is because of power hungry agendas. Voting is a form of free speech and one that not very many exercise much anymore. Instead there are a lot of unhappy people out there that gripe about the way things are right now but did nothing to prevent it. Those people had the power to change it or prevent it but did nothing instead.

However, if the government does go full tyrannical, which in my opinion we are not far from sadly, the reason for the 2A is there to take a tyrannical government down and replace it. This is in the founding documents. And where what you call "gun nuts" cleave to. Will it ever come to that? I sincerely doubt it. I don't think that the current citizen state of fortitude to do such a thing is there, even with the politicians. We are going to sink even further down, past my lifetime, before the general population finally stands up for themselves and then it may be too late.

The 1A is the very thing that will either change the course of the country or sink it. The 1A is the power of the people, IF they wake up and use it!
