President Obama on the Lack of US Gun Control

Malaysian Digest

AUSTRALIA has got gun control right, says US President Barack Obama, while his own nation “should be ashamed” at its inability to address a surge in school shootings.
The president vented frustration and disbelief that there was no momentum for gun reform in the wake of a recent spate of mass shootings, in impassioned remarks likely to touch off a new row with the powerful firearms lobby.
“Our levels of gun violence are off the charts, there is no advanced developed country on earth that would put up with this,” the president said.
President Obama made the comments during a live question and answers session on the Tumblr web forum just hours after a gunman shot and killed a student at an Oregon High School in the latest shooting incident.
He pointed out that Australia hadn’t had a single mass shooting since the crackdown on gun violence in the wake of 1996’s Port Arthur shootings.
“We are the only developed country on earth where this happens, and it happens now once a week,” he said.

  1. The problem with Australia's mindset is that they are quite up front in their wish to control the number of guns allowed to be possessed, and not that the wrong people are possessing them.

"People across NSW wanted politicians to "stand up to the gun lobby and work to control gun numbers" as more legal firearms in the state provides greater opportunity for criminals to steal guns, Mr Shoebridge said."

Mike, you claim that you only wish to restrict those who shouldn't own guns, but politicians down under want to go a bit farther. I'm not going to say whether gun control advocates are being disingenuous in their claim to be ok with qualified people owning firearms. But their open admiration of a country that contradicts that claim is informative.

    1. It may be informative of their true motives or it may simply arise out of frustration over the failure to even establish universal background checks. The gun rights movement is so totally uncooperative in seeking a solution that some of us on the other side may reach a breaking point and say fuck it, let's ban 'em all.

I stick with my own idea about what proper gun control is and the fact that it would allow for millions of truly lawful and responsible gun owners to continue pretty much as they do now, while very much solving the problems.

    2. It's simpler than that. The more guns, the more gun deaths and injuries. Since gun loons reject the simplest regulations that would curb guns getting to the wrong hands, then cutting the number of guns will lessen gun deaths and injuries.

    3. Not only that. Fewer guns would result in fewer overall murders since most murders are committed with guns.

  2. Obama should do good for the US and the rest of the world by resigning and moving to Australia along with his ghettopotamus wife.

  3. What the hell do you care how many other people own guns? Don't you already have enough guns for the use of yourself or any other members of your family who care to shoot or own guns? Do you somehow care about gun ownership as a cause? Do you believe that it is necessary, or somehow essential to freedom that gun ownership be truly unlimited?

    Made quite a difference.
