The mother of a 9-year-old who was killed in an accidental shooting in April was arrested by police Wednesday.

Officers arrested Amy Pittman Wednesday morning on Rock Street.

Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Macon Street April 28 around 9:40 p.m. in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, officers found 9-year-old Christian Pittman, who had died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Durham police said three children were home alone at the time of the shooting.

On Tuesday, Pittman was indicted on one count of voluntary manslaughter, three counts of felony child abuse – gross negligence, three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of failure to store firearms to protect minors, authorities said.

An investigation into the shooting revealed it was an accident.

I have a hard time buying this one. Maybe I'm just cold hearted, but if someone I'm involved in disappears for months, their stuff wont stay laying around in my place.

    1. I guess she should have thrown a gun in the trash.
You won't believe her story, but you believed the guy who shot his woman in the head. Both cases we only have the word of one person, so do you naturally believe men over women, or is it you believe gun loons over non gun loons.

Nonsense Anon, she could have easily called the police and asked them to take it and I bet they would have. However, her claim was that she didn't know it was there. I tend to classify almost all "accidents" as being actually some sort of negligence.
The police have investigated this woman's claim and she's still being charged. As for the man you claim shot his woman, the police immediately arrested him and he sat in jail until his story was verified.
In both cases, the police used something called evidence to decide whether to charge or not. There are many well known examples of people having no problem lying to the press. Perhaps you recall these well known lies made to the media,

      "I'm not a crook."

      Or perhaps this,

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky."

The claim that she didn't know it was there and it belonged to someone else that cant be found is one of those standards criminals use. One could almost call it cliché.

    3. Right, how do you verify a persons story when there were no witnesses?

    4. The story sounds like bullshit to me too.

Anon, I'm presuming you're referring to the story in Colorado,

      http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2014/07/colorado-man-not-charged-in-accidental.html

We should likely move this discussion there to preserve the thread. However, my guess is that there was physical evidence supported his story. Evidence can work in both direction, implicating the guilty and clearing the innocent.
The prosecutor went beyond saying there was insufficient evidence to charge, and said,

"The Post Independent reports, the District Attorney's Office has determined that James "McCabe" Mallin's actions were reasonable despite the consequences."
