Guns and Skateboards

Big thanks to Phuck Politics for sending me this link. What does this have to do with legal gun owners? Nothing directly, but indirectly, everything. Guns, like the one in this video, generally start out legal and through various means pass into criminal hands. The attitude and efforts of legal gun owners, along with that of manufacturers and dealers, is responsible for that.

After viewing this one, I'll bet our gun enthusiast friends will suggest banning skateboards.

  2. Running out of material, MikeB? This is even weaker than your usual whining drivel.

That's a bet you'd lose. Wanting to ban things, because of their misuse by a tiny minority of morally bankrupt miscreants, is a hallmark of your side--not the pro-liberty side.

  3. mikeb,

Why do you assume that the gun in this video is illegal? Do you just assume he is a criminal because he has a gun? I thought there were 10% of gun owners that were irresponsible? Wouldn't this be a prime example of that?

I don't get the point you are trying to make. Someone threatens someone with a gun and we should ban skateboards? Quite the contrary, I believe that the video shows exactly what we have been saying: a gun (or a skateboard) is merely a tool. If someone chooses to use it irresponsibly (i.e. threaten someone) that is the decision they have made - the tool didn't make them do it. Just because a skateboard is normally used for jumping off of stairs, doesn't mean it can't be turned into a deadly weapon when used to assault someone.

And like most fake guns, it stays legal, even in criminal hands.

Good point. I think my first impression was the guy with the gun was young, too young to have a gun legally. I didn't go into it much deeper than that.

Otherwise, as you point out, he would be a perfect illustration of the 10% kinda guy I'm always talking about.
