Cracked.com published a wonderful piece about five Hollywood myths about guns. Thanks TYWKIWDBI.

  1. My guns all shoot that way.

  2. Sadly, the Brady Campaign and VPC pass all of those myths off as truth.

  3. I’ve always hated the gratuitous cocking. Like how the SWAT team attempting to apprehend the very dangerous Trinity in The Matrix breaks down the door and then they all decide its a good time to rack a round into the chamber.

  4. Yes, indeed, there's much wrong with Hollywood's treatment of guns. I recently watched again the great movie "Full Metal Jacket." It contains one of the best film representations of the Parris Island training I've ever seen, the other good one is "The Boys in Company C." I just learned that the same ex-marine actor played the drill instructor in both.

But at the end of the basic training part of FMJ, which lasts about half the film, the idea of a recruit having possession of live rounds and killing the drill instructor and himself is completely outside the realm of possibility.
