Are Guns Secure in the Glove Compartment of a Locked Car?

A new Texas law gives gun owners a new right to store a weapon (any lawfully owned firearm, not just those owned under a Concealed Handgun License) in their vehicle while at work.

Those wacky Texans are at it again. On September 1, a Texas law known as the “guns-at-work” or “parking lot” bill will go into effect. The law gives gun owners a new right to store a weapon (any lawfully owned firearm, not just those owned under a Concealed Handgun License) in their vehicle while at work.
If the answer to the question is "no," if keeping a gun in the car is not safe, then to do so is irresponsible.  End of story.

The problem is, like much of the irresponsible activities of gun owners, the damaging effect will be hard to document. That's why they always mock our cries of alarm as predicting blood in the streets because they know it's difficult to show.

The result of this foolish legislation is obviously going to add to the already rampant problem of gun theft. The guns stolen end up in criminal hands and in some cases end up being used to kill people. Meanwhile how many Texan gun owners are going to have dramatic shoot-outs on the way to work and protect their lives with the gun? Far fewer, I'd say, than the ones who end up having their gun stolen.

It's not like allowing these folks to leave guns in their cars will make such a significant difference that it'll show, it's just that it's adding a few more drops to the bucketful of misery they already have. A misery, by the way they're perfectly happy to accept in the name of freedom and rights.

What's your opinion? Are these Texans "wacky" like the article said, or are they sensible freedom-loving patriots simply exercising their rights?
