New Commenting Mechanics

I've changed the commenting setting to allow comment threads to build on previous comments, or you can simply comment at the bottom as before.

Please let me know what you think.

Also I've done away with that supposed spam-detecting word you have to type in. I never really believed in that one. Let's see.

16 comments:

  1. Testing one two three.

Actually, because we were getting a lot of spam in the folder, and I got tired of deleting it all, I had set it a few months ago to include that stupid word thingy. It cuts down on the spam crap a LOT MikeB.

So for admin purposes, I wish you would set it back, so that comment moderation time can be spent entirely on actual comments not zipping through the junk.

We get just enough occasional comments that are real comments that it isn't good to just delete the spam folder contents without review.

    2. Is there a way to add an edit comment feature for those of us that type faster than we should and make alot of spelling mistakes?

    6. Jim, I don't think that edit feature is available. I also looked for that e-mail notification one for the commenters. If someone knows where these functions are on Blogger, please let me know.

  2. OK, let's see how the spam is and then put that requirement back if necessary.

This comment should be at the bottom, like a new thread.

  3. Let me try putting one at the bottom again.

  4. Second try:

How about not moderating comments? Let this be a free discussion where comments appear in the order that they're written.

    1. Don't hold your breath on that one.

  5. I do like the way things were recently, since I could open the comment section in a separate window, which would load quickly, since it only had comments on it. This blog has a lot of links and content, so each time the page has to load anew, it takes time.

  6. Greg, please clarify. I made two changes.

    1. now you can comment on a particular comment or at the bottom.

    2. I removed the spam detection word.

What do you say keep both changes or no?

  7. Those are fine. The problem is that the comment page now loads all the links and lists of older posts, just like the main page. That's a lot of content to load each time I want to comment. It's not a big deal, though. I do like the fact that my comments don't get lost because I forgot to enter my information first.

The spam detection word was interesting, by the way, since on several occasions, the word was close in pronunciation to a word that was relevant to the article's subject.

  8. I've asked Mikeb to put the spam detection word back, or else you are all going to be having longer rather than shorter moderation waits.
