Quote of the Day

Lt. Cook points out it's against the law to knowingly file a false police report. But he said the greater fear is that citizens fail to report armed individuals, either because they feel intimidated or because they've become desensitized to guns on the streets.

  1. Is it illegal for the police to file an incomplete report on a crime especially a murder? That's what the Ferguson MO. police department did in the Brown case.
If open carry is legal where people live, why would they call the police simply because they saw someone with a gun?

    1. Because it's sometimes hard to differentiate between a good guy with a gun and a bad guy with a gun. Did I really have to tell you that?

  2. So, what you’re saying is it’s a crime to call the cops on a peaceful open carrier unless you say the magic words, “I felt threatened”.

  3. "But open carry supporters say it's actually gun control activists who use 911 to harass the demonstrators. Tov Henderson of Open Carry Tarrant County blames the group 'Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.'
'They're telling their members to lie to 911. To lie to police,' Henderson said. 'They have told their members to call 911 on us, and say they saw us waving our guns violently.'
A spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action told News 8 they do not use 911 to harass."

Here's an interesting question, do people call and make statements to the 911 operator to suggest that the situation is more extreme than it is?

I am starting a grass roots movement and encourage everyone to participate. If you see someone carrying a firearm call 911 and tell them the person is threatening others with a gun. Then sit back and watch them get spread eagle and patted down, questioned or even arrested. Americans should not have to wonder whether someone brandishing a gun is a "good guy" or a "bad guy". There is no way to know. Therefore, open carry laws are wrong and should not exist. "

That Facebook page came down fairly quickly, however there is one that is much more long lived,

Generally advocating calling 911 to show you disapprove of open carry.

    1. As often happens, California has the right idea.

    2. What is the right idea? Are you saying "swatting" open carriers is the right idea?

    3. What's wrong with you? Does California support "swatting."

Outlawing open carry is the right idea, obviously.

    4. It wasn't obvious because you were responding to Sarge's post about calls of gun control supporters to implement swatting practice. Sorry. I didn't think you were supporting this, and wondered why you brought up California, so I asked for clarification.

  4. It's not unreasonable for people to call 911 when they see someone carrying a gun down the street. Of course gun loons accuse them of doing it on purpose and making up stories of false intentions. Please cite the police statistics that the police are overwhelmed by false 911 calls of gun carrying violent people.

That all depends on the reason they call. If they genuinely feel there is criminal activity taking place, then certainly they should call. However, if they are calling 911 just because they don't approve of open carry, they are not only wasting an officer's time responding to lawful activity, they are potentially causing an encounter that could result in someone being hurt.
911 operators are trained to ask questions that can help determine the level of concern for the responding officers. I can but hope that the callers don't try to exaggerate the situation which could lead to a bad outcome.

    2. You are famous for statistics, but no answer to my question as usual.
