Florida Stand Your Ground Murder

Raw Story with video

Image: Robert Doyle mug shot (Citrus County Sheriff's Office)
Robert Doyle

Doyle held them at gunpoint as Candelerio Gonzales lay dying on the pavement.

Police arrived at the scene within minutes and arrested Doyle, who they charged with second-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault for holding the family at gunpoint.

I guess he felt in danger for his life from the family even after he killed the primary threat.

  1. Instead of calling it "Stand Your Ground Murder" you could have just as easily went with "Murder", given that Stand Your Ground laws doesn't seem to be helping him one bit (despite how often our esteemed lawyer blogger calls it a "get away with murder law").

    1. Do I need to explain the "stand your ground mentality" again, Kurt. These laws, and you gun nuts who promote them on the internet, are, in some cases, the reason idiots like this act they way they do.

I don't think your "explanations" are needed anywhere. What you do need to do is to figure out whom the hell you're talking to.

    3. Except we're the ones promoting the truth about the law instead of lying about it. Do I really have to explain that again?

    4. Sorry, Kurt, that was meant for TS.

  2. Going to be an interesting story as this progresses. There seems to be a lot of bad decisions made by both parties. I personally wouldn't have driven home while being followed and let those following know where I live. I just would have arranged to link up with the police since he was already on the phone with 911.
As for the dead guy, we seem to have another instance of someone being told not to follow someone. Remember the last time we discussed that? And it seems pretty obvious that this time the request wasn't honored.

“We’re going to follow him right to his house,” Gonzalez told the 911 dispatcher. The 911 dispatcher urged them to go home, but they insisted on stopping at the house to get Doyle’s address."

However, if what one witness said is verified, the guy doesn't appear to have much hope,

"They were in the car as he was walking towards the car and got shot five times in the back right in front of them," said Nia Pitre, a neighbor who helped console Gonzalez's family."

And finally, is it me or does $60k seem a bit low for second degree murder and agg assault? As I recall, Zimmerman had similar charges and had a million dollar bond.

"Doyle was charged with second-degree murder and released from jail under $60,000 bond."

  3. Guns in cars. What could possibly go wrong?

    Anger orgasm.

I don't see a lot of similarities to the Martin case. Trayvon Martin didn't shoot and kill George Zimmerman.

  4. Zimmerman did not honor the request to not follow Martin. Just one reason Zimmerman is responsible for Martin's death.

    1. He did actually stop following him. If you bothered to listen to the 911 call, you would know that he stopped following him, lost track of where he was, and was talking to the dispatcher for 90 seconds about where to meet the cops.

    2. I did listen. He did keep following him. Your dishonesty is showing. Of course like SS you will claim Martin attacked Zimmerman, which of course, there is no proof of. If Zimmerman had followed the authorities request, Martin would still be alive, but you can support killers, that's what you gun loons do.

  5. "Zimmerman did not honor the request to not follow Martin."

Actually Anon, the 911 tapes show that as soon as the 911 operator told Zimmerman that he didn't have to follow Martin he said ok and was returning to his car when Martin assaulted him. Do you have any evidence that shows otherwise?
In this case, the now dead guy didn't comply with the request to go home, both by continuing to follow Doyle to his home and said as much on the phone.

  6. "when Martin assaulted him"
There is no proof of that but leave it to you to lie like usual.

    2. Please show that evidence that was presented in court, there is no such evidence.

    3. Well Anon, the best evidence I can think of is his acquittal of all charges.

    4. No evidence that Martin attacked Zimmerman was ever introduced in to the trial, so you lied. Why do gun loons have to lie?

    5. Well Anon, if they had been able to convince a jury that Zimmerman had initially assaulted Martin, I'm fairly sure he would have been convicted. Don't you think?
After all, evidence was introduced that Zimmerman had stopped following Martin and was returning to his car.

    6. Base your position on a lie? Typical for lying gun loons.

  7. When we're discussing a murdering civilian lawful gun owner one of your favorite tactics is to change the discussion to Zimmerman. That says a lot.

Mike, the only reason Zimmerman came up because of my observation of the dispatcher telling Gonzales to not follow Doyle. In the case of Zimmerman he agreed and then coordinated where to meet the police.
In the case of Gonzales, they both told the dispatcher no but chased Doyle all the way to his house. If they had gotten Doyle's license number and given it to the police, they would have his address.
It seems pretty obvious Gonzales was wanting a confrontation because instead of just getting the address and leaving, he got out of the car and approached Doyle.

    2. Another SS lie. Zim did not agree, or Martin would still be alive.

  8. "my observation of the dispatcher telling Gonzales to not follow Doyle. In the case of Zimmerman he agreed"
That's total BS and lies. He met the police, but he continued to follow Martin. Your lies are exposed by the facts. Why do gun loons have to lie?

    1. The jury never heard that, but leave it to you to lie about evidence, so you can get a killer off.

    2. Anon, the entire premise of the prosecution was based on the Zimmerman racially profiling Martin, following him, and killing him. The evidence led the jury to acquit.

Sorry SS, go back and read the transcripts, your lie is clearly fictional.
