A Lafayette teen was killed Saturday when he was accidentally shot in the face.
According
to a press release from the Lafayette Police Department, officers
responded to reports of a shooting on the 1600 block of 12th Street.
There, they found an 18-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the
face. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced
dead.
Police arrested Anthony Beloney, 18, who told officers that
he and the victim were playing with a pistol, and, believing it to be
unloaded, he pointed it at the victim's face, the press release says.
Beloney
was charged with negligent homicide and possession of marijuana. The
identity of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of the
victim's family. The investigation remains ongoing.

Alexandria's first homicide of 2015 was an accidental shooting that prompted Chief LorenLampert to stress that "firearms are neither toys nor entertainment."
Alexandria police were called to a house in the 2500 block of Culpepper Drive on Sunday because of a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found a wounded 29-year-old male victim. The unidentified man was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
The man's identity was not made public on Monday.
Another man at the house, 29-year-old Kendall Smith, was arrested at the scene. "The investigation found that this incident was accidental when a firearm Smith was playing with discharged," reads the release.
Smith was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center and was charged with negligent homicide.
