Guns on Amtrack

Get ready, it's coming in two weeks.  Blood will be flowing on those trains right onto the platform and tracks. Then the gun-rights guys well know we were right.

Want to carry your favorite gun on train? you can do so on Amtrak as a new baggage policy of the rail operator allows passengers to carry unloaded guns on its trains, starting Dec.15.

Can we talk for a minute about what an anti-gun president Obama has been?  Shouldn't all those who predicted doom and gloom when Obama was elected feel embarrassed. Have any of them admitted they were wrong?

What's your opinion?  Please leave a comment.

  1. Didn't even bother reading past the first sentence, huh?

"The change, which was enacted by Congress in Dec. 2009, brings Amtrak's firearms policy in line with air travel rules that permit unloaded guns to be stored in locked baggage holds."

  2. It's obvious he didn't make it past the first sentence.

Blood flowing on the tracks and platforms, huh? Just like when any law abiding citizen takes their legal, properly stored firearm on an airplane. Blood raining down from the sky on a daily basis, huh Mike?

At least four times a day we hear in the news about another gun owner on an airplane, going into the storage hold, getting their firearm, loading it and murdering everyone on board for no reason, don't we Mike? Mike? No answer?

The facts are against you every step of the way here. Get your head out of Japete's ass and find yourself another hobbyhorse to cry about.

  3. da_truth36, You're obviously not used to my sense of humor. kaveman has no excuse.

Here's the deal. Pro gun guys always say that gun control people cry "there'll be blood in the streets" at each advancement of gun rights. The truth is none of us actually says that. So, in an atempt at humor, facetiously speaking, I use that expression from time to time.

Then the funniest part of all is, you guys take it literally and fail to get the humor.

Do I think allowing guns on Amtrack is a good thing? No.

Do I think it'll literally lead to blood flowing out of the train cars? No.

  4. Mike, I take it you don't think guns should be allowed to be checked on planes either. What is your big beef with this? This is about transporting- it has nothing to do with carry rights. That is why Obama doesn't have a problem with it. Can't you find one pro-gun thing to say, "yeah, I'm cool with that" about?

  5. TS: In the spirit of goodwill, I will note many gunloons seem to shoot themselves.

    "yeah, I'm cool with that"

Actually, sir, you did use the phrase "blood in the streets" in your 12November post here:http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2010/11/austin-texas-murders-way-up.html

  7. Apparently, mikeb is concerned that these guns will unlock their own cases, seek out the ammo in a separate locked case, load itself, sneak out of the cargo compartment, and shoot one of The Children® in Chicago.

    A very valid concern indeed.

  8. Please note that unlike the airlines you have to notify them 24 hours in advance of your intention to check a gun. This is an obvious common sense restriction to increase passenger safety, and has absolutely nothing to do with trying to hassle law-abiding gun owners into forgoing their 2A rights.

Also note that it took an entire year to develop and implement this incredibly detailed and complex plan, most likely because they didn't have an existing example of traveling with firearms to copy and expand off of (if only the airlines had something like this already) and had to do it all from scratch.

  10. MikeB: “Do I think allowing guns on Amtrack is a good thing? No. Do I think it'll literally lead to blood flowing out of the train cars? No.”

So if you don’t think it will lead to more violence, why do you think it is a bad thing? It certainly has nothing to do with gun flow.

The Amtrak bill is such a minor change, but is a good litmus test to see where politicians stand on guns-rights. There is no reasonable cause to be opposed to this. Anyone who opposes this simply hates guns.

  11. TS, You may be right. This really isn't a biggie. I'm wondering how it would work though. If there's no licensing and registration yet, what would gun owners have to do? Make the advance reservation and I suppose present some ID. The next thing you know, you've got all kinds of people abusing the system. The movement of guns both legitimate and not, will be increased.

I don't know. These are just ideas off the top of my head. Like I said it's not a bid deal but I'm reluctant to proclaim "I'm cool with it."

    I’m never right. It’s a gift.
