Remington Receives Big Grants to Stay in New York

The NY Daily News reports

Two gun-makers who have opposed a police-favored bill for bullet microstamping received more than $6 million in state economic development funds since 2009, the Daily News has learned.

Most of the grant money, $5.6 million, went to the Remington Arms Company, which threatened recently to leave New York if the state passes a microstamping measure.
What's your opinion? Isn't it odd that an industry that is booming would even be eligible for grant money?

  1. Nope. The petroleum industry gets subsidies all the time, as does big agriculture. Governments love to spend money. Shame on Remington for staying in New York, though. There are plenty of gun friendly states that would welcome their plants. The residents in People's Republics like New York and California aren't buying many of their products, anyway. Might as well put the plant closer to the buyers.

Not when they could be booming in a free state--and New York knows this. At a time when manufacturing facilities lay vacant and communities are desperate for employers and offer incentives and abatements, it is somewhat economically viable to relocate to their pick of locales. That isn't always the case.
