Earlier today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)
indicated that he will move gun violence prevention legislation to the
floor of the Senate for consideration on Thursday, April 11th. We are happy to report that it appears that Senator Reid now
has the votes needed to break a filibuster on the legislation planned by 14 Republican Senators.

Now we need YOU to contact your Senators and tell them to
vote YES on universal background checks, the assault weapons ban, and
tough new criminal penalties for gun traffickers. You can reach your two
Senators at (202) 224-3121. If you do not know who they are, click
here.
DON’T SIT ON THE SIDELINES. Pick up your phone and call your Senators now! It only takes a few minutes.
Because of your hard work, we are beginning to see this issue break our way.
I am convinced that if we sustain constituent pressure on Senators in
the hours before these critical votes, we will see meaningful gun reform
legislation approved this week. Then we will move this battle to the
House of Representatives.
Let's work together to and get the job done in the Senate. Thank you so much for your support!

Final Push in the Senate - Message from Josh Horwitz

Cha-ching! Cha-ching! Cha-ching!
ReplyDeleteJosh Horror is so useful. I'd already sent messages to my senators, but here Horror comes to remind me that an important vote comes up this Thursday. This is the message that I just sent:
ReplyDeleteOn Thursday, the Senate will vote to break the threatened filibuster on gun control legislation. If that succeeds, the measures will be up for consideration. Later may come a proposed treaty from the United Nations regarding trade in arms.
In all of these, I am asking you to vote nay. The people of Arkansas and of the United States in most states don't want these bills to pass--despite what the media report. The background check bill, for example, has been deceptively presented as covering only a permanent transfer of ownership, while in fact, it would criminalize common behaviors that are no threat to anyone.
Instead, I am asking you to uphold the Constitution by working for gun rights. Last year, a national carry license reciprocity bill was held up by Dianne Feinstein. That bill would have recognized that our rights don't end at the borders of our home states. Such a bill is exactly the kind of gun legislation that I want.
Consider this: Gun control freaks demand that we compromise, and yet they offer nothing in return. That being the case, I am asking you never to surrender what is right for this country. Work to preserve our rights. Work to enhance the exercise of our rights.
With thanks from a fellow citizen, not a subject,
