arma virumque cano (et alia)
Good move the guy made with a gun stuck in his face.
No gun needed to protect themselves. Good job! There are techniques to disarm, without being armed.
Jim, you've declared yourself someone with a carry license. Given your statement here, why do you carry a gun?
I'm glad it worked in this case Jim, however, that doesn't mean that defending yourself that way against an armed assailant is a workable solution. Not too long ago, a school worker was able to talk an armed man who had broken into the school to commit murder and mayhem into surrendering, yet, just because it worked that time make it a workable response.
We had a case like this a week or so ago, and I asked, could it possibly have ended better if someone on the bus had had a gun besides the bad guy?The fact is, not only is it highly unlikely that a good guy with a gun will ever need to use it defensively, if he does, the chances are it will make matters worse.Guns do more harm than good, no matter how you slice it.
Mikeb, you keep ignoring valid evidence to the contrary.
Citizens take down gun-wielding robber on Metro bushttp://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2013/11/seattle-bus-passengers-subdue-gun.html Mike, if the link above is the one you are referring to, its the same event. As for the tactical situation in this case, I cant say whether introducing another firearm would have made it better. But then, if there had been a policeman, either plainclothes or off duty, on the bus, what do you suppose he would have done? As I said earlier, I'm glad that this worked out well for everyone except for the robber. However, as you can see by the other comments, some seem to use this as evidence that everyone can use some fancy martial arts move and that guns aren't needed.
If the guy had a gun would he have been able to pull it out fast enough to use it? He immediately grabbed the gun. If he had reached into his pocket for a gun, he would have been dead before he got to it. To the aptly named site lying criminal coward - it's none of your business when, or why I carry. I never tell anyone if I am carrying. And I certainly respect peoples request that I do not carry on their property, unlike you who will disregard such rules. Starbucks has asked that I don not bring my gun into their store. I respect and comply with their request; unlike you who has stated you would not comply with their request. Moot point since I never go to Starbucks. I have signs on my property that say, "No guns allowed." If you ignore that sign, you will find yourself in the sights of my gun. That's fair for criminals who ignore my right to set rules on my property. If you are dumb enough to announce when you are carrying, go ahead, you have proven many times how stupid you are.
By the way, I have had a gun in my face (like the guy in this video) and did disarm all those criminals without a gun and without anyone getting hurt. It is not luck, it is practicing good techniques.
No response from the troll cowards.
I see a bunch of vigilantes that took the law into their own hands. I hope the prosecutor uses the video to identify that man's attackers and puts them all behind bars. Everyone knows they should have called the police and let the cops handle the situation. How can you support this type of violence Mike?
Saw this on the telly last night, and looked up the incident online just to enjoy the spectacle of this Seattle 'yuppie-type' reading a newspaper, minding his own business and then disarming an armed thug without missing a step ... MADE my day! Thanks, Dirty Harry! GO SEATTLE!
