Where to start....This isn't SYG because it took place in the home. This wasn't even a credible castle doctrine defense. This came out very early yin the investigation because no only did the killer run off at the mouth during the interrogation, but he also recorded the entire encounter. Hence, the first degree murder convictions. A criminal trying to use a defense doesn't mean they'll be successful. Nor does it speak to the fairness or unfairness of the law. It was basically a Hail Mary attempt by the defense attorney because the defendant had given the prosecutors a slam dunk case.
The problem for you and other gunsuck losers is that you have convinced a lot of people that SYG DOES cover any event inside the house. This is the NRA's worst nightmare - a guy who killed kids because he believes all that NRA sht about the cops being no help, that you have to solve your own problems. Your gunsuck loser propaganda has been very successful, and more dead kids are coming.
Lib, if it takes place in the home, it's a castle doctrine event. Last session, Minnesota's governor vetoed legislation that would have strengthened the states castle doctrine law. However, making an audio recording of you finishing off an intruder after they are no longer a threat will pretty much guarantee that claiming self defense won't work.
Almost everyone I have ever heard or seen describe these laws as "Get Away with Murder" are the gun control freaks. They are the ones spouting this nonsense and they are the ones that should feel guilty when someone thinks they have the right to do something like this. Gun rights supporters do not support these actions nor do they advertise that Castle Doctrine or Stand Your Ground laws allow for such behavior.
Pissy, you've already established that you'd confront a home invader with a tire iron or something similar. In other words, you'd use a weapon too. You'd just pick one that isn't as effective.
What I often talk about is the castle doctrine mentality and the SYG mentality. You gun-rights nuts are responsible for these terrible phenomena. It's pretty tricky that you try to blame gun control people and other rational commenters for calling these laws what they are, essentially licenses to kill. The fact that some of the sick shooters get busted in no way diminishes the fact that others don't.

DeleteI still don't understand why the girl didn't take off after hearing gun shots.
